Manzanita Branch centerpiece question

Jasmine, on November 4, 2011 at 12:40 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

So I've seen a few posts on other sites, including videos, of how best to glue/plaster/weigh down with rocks, manzanita branch centerpieces.

My questions to all you ladies are:

1. What type of container (plastic, glass, ceramic, metal, etc.) are you personally using for these centerpieces?

2. How'd you stabilize your centerpiece (hot glue to foam, filler, etc.)?

Here's my inspiration pic. Thanks ladies!

It depends on the weight of the branches. You can get creative. I recommend making one up and really see what works for your wedding.

There is usually a green moss foam in the bass to hold the weight of the branches so that is why your photo is using a tall vase. I hope that helps.

Yes, it does. I guess I'll have to try my luck and play around with it. Thanks, ladies!

Heres a pic of our escort card tree. our escort cards are little birds with peoples names on them that will hang from the branches. the branch in my pic is about 4ft tall

FH cut out a circular wood base. we leveled the bottom of the branch, and anchored it to the base using screws. its harder than it looks.. but its VERY stable.

since the branch was so large, we couldnt use the vase+filler combo to stablize it. you might be able to do it if your branches are smaller though...

keep in mind manzanita is EXPENSIVE!! i bought mine at a wholsale price but even then it was a little pricey

How tall is the branch you used? Mine are 12-13" so they won't have too much weight on them.

You could also do tall vases of water.

We're using branches as centerpieces, but I'm not sure yet what will be in the bottom. We're kind of going more earthy, so we'll probably do moss.

If you can't see through the vases (like a ceramic urn, stone vase) maybe plaster of paris would work. You really want these things to be sturdy. Barring that, river rocks, tumbled stones and seaglass, colored sand. If you're planning on hanging votive candles, keep in mind that these can be fairly heavy in quantity.
