March 9 or May 26 wedding date

Veronica, on June 14, 2018 at 9:01 AM Posted in Texas Planning 0 7
I’m so indecisive! I want an outdoor wedding in Dallas, but I know the weather is so unpredictable. I like the idea of May 26 the Sunday before Memorial Day to make use of the holiday, but if turns out too hot i’ll have to have it inside. March 9 could also still be on the chilly side, but would still be nice enough to enjoy outside. What do y’all think? And how do I overcome this indesiciveness for the rest of my planning!?

Hi Veronica! Both dates sound good for your outdoor plans! If weather is a concern, then I would stick with the March date to avoid having to potentially move guests inside because of the heat. However, if you want to really make use of the holiday weekend, then I would just plan it for May 26th! I would also consider timing; do you think you'll be able to have everything planned by March?

If you go with a holiday weekend, prepare for a lot of “no” rsvps. Also, it’ll be WAY too hot in May for everyone to be outside (would you leave your grandma out in the heat for half an hour?) my vote is March, just be prepared with a rain plan. I would doubt it would be too cold.

In Dallas around March it can either get really wind blowing cold or possibly warm like weather. In May it starts getting hot but usually doesn’t hit the triple digits yet. I really think it first depends on the venue you want and the availability they have. Down here it usually starts getting hot in June but can also rain on some days, July and August always triple digits unbearable hot and this is why venues will have more availability especially if it’s outside. Whichever way you choose, just make sure to accommodate guests. So if it’s outside and hot if you have to provide umbrellas, sunscreen, shades and etc. If it’s cold, then provide blankets and if possible heat lamps.

My wedding is March 9, 2019 in the North Dallas area and I'm preparing for literally everything. Hot, cold, rain, sleet, snow, tornado... Texas weather is SO unpredictable, so if you do pick March, make sure you have a venue that accommodates inside and outside options! I would rather not have my ceremony inside, but if worst comes to worst, it'll still be awesome. Also, like PP have said, prepare for some "no" RSVPs due to Memorial Weekend being a hugely celebrated weekend.

Best of luck! I may be biased, but March 9th sounds wonderful. Smiley smile

Texas heat SUCKS. I also vote March, since it will be a little cooler, and make sure you pick a venue with a plan B for rainy weather. I also read an article to avoid wedding dates near holidays since a lot of people may be planning vacations around that holiday, in turn of people declining to go unless you tell them way in advance.

I was originally wanting March 9 for our wedding, since we loved the idea of getting married the weekend before spring break (FH is a teacher), but we went with Feb. 9 instead. Only reason we decided against it was because it’s my FSIL birthday. I also considered a May wedding briefly but with how hot Texas has been this summer I’m glad my family talked me out of it. I already had family members complain about the idea of our wedding in the May heat. And I was miserable this May in shorts and a tank top. I feel like in the Texas heat I would sweat and feel gross on my wedding day. Especially since we want to enjoy the beautiful outdoor area of our venue. I think March would be perfect temperature wise. I think the one issue would be, rain. March tends to be a wet month, atleast down here in San Antonio. So you may have to have the wedding inside anyways, or under tents. Texas weather is always unpredictable though, so honestly choose whatever date works best for you! It will be a perfect day no matter what since you are marrying the love of your life! Just be prepared for the weather (fans, cold water, cheap sunglasses, umbrellas, tents, etc.)
