Marijuana Bars At Weddings

The Bride, on August 17, 2019 at 3:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 25
According to Bloomberg, the latest wedding trend is having marijuana bars for guests to enjoy since recreational weed has been legal in many states. Couples have found that having open bud is cheaper than having open bars.

Would you have a marijuana bar at your wedding? Why or why not?

***FYI: If your FS is a visa-holder or applying for their green-card do not host marijuana at your wedding (yes, even if your state legalized it for open/recreational use). It can effect your application or existing visa***

If my husband wasn’t a visa holder at the time of our wedding I would have definitely considered it! Always thinking about that guest experience, amirite?!! 😏😏😏

Thank you for sharing that tidbit.
If this had come up during my wedding planning I would have considered it even though my husband and I don't smoke.

It’s legal in my state and it doesn’t bother me, not really different than a hookah bar. I don’t know how you would dress it up for a wedding though, maybe like a cigar bar?

I guess so. I've heard of cigar bars and hookah at weddings so I guess marijuana is next.

100% I would not have had this at my wedding. I want people to be able to enjoy themselves and remember the day, I wouldn't want people to be getting high and causing issues. I don't think I would be comfortable at a wedding with an open marijuana bar either. Marijuana stinks in my opinion. Alcohol is much easier since it doesn't smell, but again you have the issue of people getting drunk and causing issues.

Wouldn't that kill the party atmosphere pretty quick? I wouldn't think this is a good idea unless you're okay with your guests just sitting around and not getting up to dance.

Recreational marijuana will be legal in my state come January and our wedding is in April. This would be something we totally would do, but probably won’t. If we were having a smaller wedding, for sure though. In response to the last post, it would not kill the party atmosphere. Kind of a silly question. I guess it’s just a stereotype that weed makes you lazy? FH and I smoke regularly and yes, sometimes it makes you a couch potato but you just have to know the right strains to get.

I didn't ask based on any stereotype but on my own experience. Granted I smoke very rarely and have a low tolerance, so every time it's made me pretty much useless for the rest of the evening. But, I guess it could work for a crowd who's more used to it.

I also would want to make sure people remember my wedding. I'm not sure if I consider marijuana is worse than alcohol though.

My husband and I discussed this topic after I posted it and we could barely count anyone who came to our wedding and actually smokes marijuana so we definitely wouldn't have a marijuana bar at our wedding if we could do it over again.

Honestly, I'm not sure but I would assume everyone responds to marijuana differently, just like alcohol. 🤷🏾‍♀️

What do you think would be the pros and cons of having a marijuana bar at your wedding?

I've also heard that stereotype but then again I don't really know anyone who smokes marijuana so I don't have enough information to go off of.

I wouldn't aha. But that's interesting. I wouldn't also purely for the fact that I only know like two people who do it vs the 250 I had at my wedding so it wouldn't have been worth it anyway

Best parties I’ve been to, I’ve been cross faded. I used to live in a legal state. I wouldn’t now even if I did as we’re having a completely dry wedding. Maybe a few years ago in a different part of my life I would have.

I think it would be wildly popular with my friends but my FH’s family is very conservative and would lose their minds if we brought marijuana into the reception. It’s not legal in my home state so it’s a moot point.
