Marriage Age: Dream vs Reality

I wanted to be married by the age of 21 but actually got married at the age of 28. What about you? What age did you dream of getting married? What age will you be when you actually get married?

I knew I wanted to get married one day, but being the girl that got made fun of a lot in school, I never really knew an age. When I got into my current relationship marriage was the farthest thing from my mind because I thought it was impossible for someone like me. Now I'm 21 and getting married in 12 days.

Sure. I was barely 18. He was 20, and had been in the service for 2 years when we got married. We had dated in high school, and he was VERY controlling at school (I didn’t see him outside of school, dates weren’t a thing until I was older) he would criticize what I wore, who I talked too, ect. He also cheated, multiple times. So when he joined the service we lost touch. We reconnected when he randomly shown up at my house one night, told me he was sorry for how he acted, then he disappeared again. I ran into him a little while down the road, we went to lunch, and decided to get married. I was in love with the idea of love and marriage. When I moved across the states for him, I discovered multiple other women he was talking to online, whom he sent gifts too. He slept all day, worked like a 3-11 shift. Stayed up all night playing video games. He gave me $200 a month for groceries, and he was allowed to buy whatever he wanted but I had to ask permission to buy demons products. If I went out with my best friend, he was constantly calling and texting wanting to know where I was, who I was with, ect (I had never cheated) he got physical with me more than once, and “no” wasn’t something that was accepted in regards to things I didn’t wanna do. I can go on about that marriage.

I don’t know how to edit but it’s supposed to say feminine products not demon products 🤣

I wanted to be married by the time I was 25, but I'll be married when I'm 27! So not too far off!

I wanted to be married by the time I was 24. I am 31 now, and will be 32 when we tie the knot. I learned some very hard lessons about love and also myself in between then and now. I learned the kind of person I never want to be with; but thanks to that I appreciate the man I'm going to marry that much more. Things never really happen the way you think they will but sometimes that's a good thing.

I wanted to get married young, i don't know what age but i wanted kids young, like 23 24.. because i wanted a lot of them. I just love love and relationships lol moved in with my fiance at 23 and will be getting married at 24, Not too young I guess. We don't have children yet, we're both trying to get situated but baby fever is kicking in for me. I have so much faith and confidence in us, we're planning to start a family at 27 and 28. whatever happens tho, happens. I'd be grateful either way at this point.

I was thinking I would get married at 25. I'm 20, but I'll probably be 21 by the time of the wedding. I'm not sure if I will get married in March, probably more like July or June. I know it's a young age for marriage, but it just feels right.

I wanted to be married by 30 because I had fallen into the trap of thinking your life ends at 30 lol. As I went through my 20s I was with my amazing man but kept thinking "damn, I'm not where I wanna be career wise and definitely can't support myself financially or have any funds for a wedding." By the time I got my bachelor's and my masters, I was 28. I realized that it didn't matter if I was past 30. My life wasn't going to end. And I wanted to enjoy each part of my relationship with my man. I'll be just a few weeks past 31 when we finally get married in Oct 2023 and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Good for you!! It seems to me that you chose responsible maturity over any age requirements. I was 33 when hubby and I were married. We had a 2 year engagement period as I had been married at 20 and divorced 8 years later, and we both were establishing ourselves in our careers. By the time I was 35, I had a good husband with a solid career, a good job for myself (which I was later able to do part-time) , a house, and a baby son. That was almost 38 years ago. Since then, my 1st marriage has been annulled - I am Roman Catholic and could not have a Catholic wedding back then, so we're having it this June, with our son and 2 grandchildren in attendance. Good things are worth waiting for, at any age. I wish you and your fiance many blessings and much luck!!
