Marriage certificate has the wrong date!

Meghan S., on June 25, 2017 at 2:46 PM Posted in Married Life 0 11

So I just got our marriage certificate in the mail yesterday after our priest sent it in. He wrote the wrong date on it! He put June 4, 2017 instead of June 3. Is this a big deal? I can't find anything online or our county's website. I will probably call the county office tomorrow, but just wondering if anyone has experienced this before. I'm in Florida if that helps.

On another note, check the license before it's sent in! After the ceremony our priest and witnesses went to sign it, and the priest said he would mail it to the office. There was so much going on I didn't think to look at it, but now wish I had!

Opps, I'd call the courthouse and the priest on Monday.

Update: Thankfully the courthouse said this isn't a big deal, and if we want to change it, it will only cost $7. Phew!

I still recommend checking the license before it's sent in!

It's not a big deal in most cases, but yes, for anyone else out there, it should be fixed.

I'd be charging the priest....lol....but honestly, once it's signed, there really is nothing you can do but go through a correction with the clerk. So don't feel guilty about that!

Me too! I found a post on here from 2011 about this happening to someone else in Florida, and they were told it would cost $500 to change, so I was really nervous!

Did you need to provide evidence of the correct day?
And did u need to do an amendment ? Or did they just change the date without problems ?

Does anyone know what I'd have to do in NYC if the date on the marriage certificate was wrong?

@Elle - I actually haven't changed it. It hasn't come up when I've needed to show my marriage license. If I do end up changing it, we have a certificate from the church, so I guess I would end up bringing that as "proof".

If I were you, just call the courthouse in your county and see what they say. Mine said it wasn't a big deal, and it would be easy to fix.
