Marriage Certificate (nj Advice needed)

Phylicia, on January 2, 2021 at 4:52 PM Posted in New Jersey Planning 1 6
Hey Everyone !

My husband and I have been married since November 27th 2020. 3 days following the wedding my officiant mailed off the marriage license that everyone signed on the wedding day. Due to COVID 19; the Newark city clerk offices are either closed; no emails available; or the phones are tied up.
Are there any brides from New Jersey that have received their certificates? If so, how did you receive it? Did you get it in the mail automatically or did you actually stopped by the clerk office unannounced (or with appointment) to retrieve it?
We are wondering if we should wait longer or just drop in and figure out what’s going on..

Unless you specifically filled out the form for them to mail it to you and attached the check, you have to go in person.

Thank you so much! This makes sense. The websites are not clear at all about what the next steps are.

When we applied for our marriage license, the person in the clerk's office gave us a sheet with instructions. This was pre-COVID though.

We got a sheet as well. But I swear to you the only thing it tells me is how to fill out the license on the wedding day. What ink to use; what lines to fill out and that it needs to be sent to the municipality in which the ceremony was performed. That’s it.

It doesn’t guide me on what’s the next steps.

Well that's annoying. But yeah, we went to the municipal clerk's office about 2 weeks after our wedding (we went on our honeymoon 2 days after the wedding and went when we came home) and got 2 copies of it. I think they were $5 a piece and the woman printed them right there. You can apparently also order online: https://www.nj.gov/health/vital/order-vital/online-requests/

Ahh! I see it. I wonder how come I didn’t bump into this in my many many google searches. Instead of waiting 8-12 weeks processing time. I will do as you did and pay them a visit!

    Thank you for the reassurance.
