Marriage License requirements in pa

Stella, on November 12, 2018 at 9:23 AM Posted in Pennsylvania Planning 0 8

Hi,

My FH and I are getting married on 4/27/19. I've read that you need to present a social security card in order to apply for a marriage license but I can't seem to find mine. I don't want to order another one when I'm only going to update it again in a few months. Can someone confirm the documents needed for a marriage license in Philadelphia, PA?

TIA!

You don't need your SSA card - just have to know your #. All we were asked for was our driver's license to prove our identities. For the application, they ask you personal questions, like, address, phone, etc., and parent's names and occupations.

Hey Stella!! Welcome to WeddingWire!!! Like Happily Ever Mrs. H said, you don't need your social security card, so you should be fine. If you want to double (or triple) check what documents you'll need, you can go to the website of the Bureau of Register of Wills in the county you're getting married in. They should tell you what you need and how much you'll need to pay for your marriage license. Smiley smile

Where in PA are you getting married?

For my PA marriage license (Lehigh county) we only needed our driver’s licenses! Other acceptable forms of ID were birth certificate, state issued photo-ID, passport, visa, green card. The clerk will ask you for your SSN (but you don’t need the card), and will ask other info like place of birth, occupation, birth information about both of your parents, etc. If you’re still not sure and want to double check, just look online or call the office! The website for my county has all the info needed on their website for marriage licenses 😊

If you go online and look for the requirements for get a Pa marriage license, it will tell you what you need to bring with you. you can also call them about it but it is easier to go online.

Does it matter in pa which county you get your license in? Or just as long as it’s in the state?
