How far in advance should you apply for your marriage License?

It depends on your state - some states require a waiting period (such as 3 days) after applying until you can get the licence. Some states allow the licence to be valid for 60 days, other states allow it to be valid for 30. I recommend checking what the rules in your state are. Overall, I'd typically recommend getting it like 2 weeks ahead of your wedding, so that you're not rushed, but also aren't getting it too far ahead of time.

Definitely check with the county where you will apply. I applied for mine in August for my October wedding because I wasn't sure if things would shut back down. Just be mindful that with COVID some things may take longer because less people are in office and also keep in mind that it's possible for a second shut down if things go back to being bad. I would apply later this month for a January wedding if you are able to

Look online at your county's probate court most places have a valid period of 30 to 60 days. Thankfully, the area I'm getting married in has no expiration for marriage licenses.

Call your county courthouse or sub-courthouse. Here in TX there is a 3 day waiting period and then you have to get married within 90 days after that. There are also other rules about which county you marry in and stuff. They should be able to guide you in the right direction! But no matter where you are, make a plan for it at least 4 months in advance!

Definitely research this. Every state is different. You should be able to go to your register or deeds website to obtain this info. We got ours 2 weeks before our wedding.
