Marriage/civil Union License

Nicole, on June 27, 2020 at 2:29 PM Posted in Illinois Planning 0 3

We want to get married in court in downtown Chicago on our original date 8/1. We just applied online for a civil union license. I know the clerk's offices are currently closed, but I heard they're opening up again beginning of July so I'm hoping we can just go in then to obtain our license. I know that they're offering online appts. too but I'm just waiting until our wedding is 30 days away in case they don't open. Other counties' courthouses are open by appt. only but we don't want to get married there because they're only open M-F and our wedding is on a Saturday. I'm just stressed and worried that the downtown location won't be open by 8/1 :/ anyone else planning on having a civil wedding and can offer advice/your experience?

That sounds like a good plan Nicole! I'd just keep checking in to see what their online vs in person policies and wait times are!!

Will County is performing civil ceremonies on Saturdays! The courthouse is in Joliet, which is a bit of a drive, but it was easy. Here's a link with more info: https://www.willcountycourts.com/Court-Services/Marriages-Civil-Unions
