Married and still having a wedding

Shawnna, on March 7, 2020 at 2:43 PM Posted in Married Life 0 42
So me and my honey got married Via Court House on 2/24/20 but we're still planning on having a wedding. A few of my people said we should just have a reception, Any thoughts?

You can have a vow renewal or a celebration of marriage, but married people can’t have weddings.

Don't know if I agree with that, I mean a wedding ceremony is for show, Cake, dress, bridesmaid's etc.... Saying vowls in front of at judge isn't a wedding.

If you got married it's a wedding. Maybe in your book a wedding is about cakes and dresses, but that's unfortunate and extremely insulting to people whose only celebration was a courthouse ceremony. Unless you plan to get divorced in between, a married couple cannot legally have a wedding.

You can do WHATEVER you want. Please don’t listen to the opinions of the above. That’s just want they think and it’s not about what a stranger thinks. It’s about how you and your partner want to celebrate your commitment to each other. Omg people get on my nerves with this sometimes. Do you honey!!!🎊🎉

No I got married, I did not have a wedding! And if someone chose to only have a court house vowel exchange that is their right! But the truth is they did not have a wedding! And if that offends you.....🤷🏿‍♀️

If you got married, you already had a wedding. Getting married is the wedding. But if you want to have a vow renewal and reception to have a big wedding feel, that is great!

I mean, you can argue all you want but that’s objectively wrong lol. Your wedding is when you get married. But again, there is nothing wrong with saying your vows and having a “ceremony” with your family and friends, and a reception.

It is just misleading to tell your guests that you’re hosting a “wedding” when you’re already married. But the event you host can feel exactly like a wedding. But if you’re married it just isn’t called a wedding.

1st all my guest already know we are married! 2nd you looking this up makes no difference. If you plan a wedding and have a party it's a wedding even if you got married already. Sounds to me that you and the folks like you are mad I chose to do both😂 oh well we'll be having our wedding in Aug of next year 😘

Exactly. For most people, their wedding is when the make vows to their partner in front of family and friends and then celebrate this occasion together. Whether or not you got legally married beforehand is irrelevant. Some people find their civil ceremony just as meaningful and that’s wonderful, but you and your FS find meaning in having a traditional celebration with al your guests. So, that’s what you’re doing!

Well you can do whatever you want and I hope you have a lovely day! But you literally posted this asking for other people’s thoughts, so idk why you’re getting so defensive and arguing with anyone who disagrees with you.

I got defensive when you and the few others, decided that you had to make my opinion on MY wedding irrelevant. And trying to not give your opinion, but trying to prove how wrong I was. That's not what I put this forum up for. But um yeah have a nice day.

From the comments it seems like you’re going to do whatever you want anyway so I’m not sure why you asked for thoughts, but if friends of mine were already married I’d think it was weird to be invited to a wedding for them. You can’t just change the definition of words to suit your own wants.

So if that's how you feel, why comment?
