Married ladies: How long did it take to get used to your new name?

Mandi, on June 29, 2016 at 12:10 PM Posted in Married Life 0 31

I still have to stop and think when I announce myself on phone calls at work, or sign my name, etc. Problem is I haven't switched all my accounts yet so some still have my maiden name.

I got used to it pretty fast, not sure why/how. Just kind of clicked.

I no longer accidentally give people my maiden name or sign receipts with my maiden name, but it's still a conscious "this is my new name now" moment whenever I use my last name Smiley smile Probably different for everyone. But I had my maiden name for 27 years, and it's only been 8 months since the wedding and my name change!

I didn't change my name, but it took the better part of a year to be able to say "my husband" and to think of myself as "wife". I felt like I had JUST gotten used to saying fiance and then it changed on me again.

I've been married for 7 months and it's finally stuck. I had my maiden name for 37 years. Took a little white to get used to the new one. But I love it. It's shorter too so I dont have to constantly spell a huge last name any more.

I changed my last name about 1 month ago and it still feels a bit weird on the phone and in professional settings. I catch myself wanting to write my old last name more than anything though.

Mimi that might be it - I still have to spell it, but my maiden name sounded like someone yelling in German, and my new one is much simpler.

I'm a teacher, so hearing my new name **** times a day made me adjust quickly. ;-)

It is definitely hard to get used to! But what's even more strange was the first time I heard DH introduce me as his wife!

I'm getting used to it. Need to work on my signature though.

Honestly-not long at all. It was weirder getting used to called DH my husband.

My signature is terrible. It looks like a two year old did it. That's definitely taking some getting used to!

I'm only one month in so I still kind of feel like I'm lying about my identity lol

My name change went through at work yesterday so, maybe seeing it every day on my email & phone will help.

I was at a work breakfast last week and introduced myself with my maiden last name and my former boss whispers, playfully, "Jade stop lying to everyone! That's not who you are anymore!" It was funny because I didn't even realize that I did it!

I haven't actually had to introduce myself with my new full name since then, but I'm sure it'll take a little while to get a hang of it

It's been 2 months today that we've been married but the officiant from Good Morning America put the wrong wedding date on our marriage certificate so we had to mail our certificate back to NYC which held up changing my name at a few places. I'm very cognizant of when I'm saying my name. It's definitely not fluid yet. But I was also really excited to get rid of my last name. It had an apostrophe which made life super complicated haha.

Everything is switched over to my new name, but I'm still not used to it. Granted we've only been married 40 days.

I was shipping something at FedEx and they asked for my name and I started smiling like an idiot at DH who was standing next to me. Then at work my coworker introduced himself as first name, last name on my first day back from the honeymoon and I got this deer in headlights look to try and remember to introduce myself with my new name.

I am still in the process of switching the odds and ends stuff over. It still is a bit weird. Also, I had to have my husband remind me how to make a cursive "J" for my signature, which he still makes fun of me for, as does his entire family.

I have been practicing writing it for a few months. I feel like I'll never be used to it!

I'm in the process of changing everything over. I've only done SS, DMV and work so far. So not used to it at all.

We went to a family wedding (my side) last weekend. I was searching for my name and saw my parents, cousins and aunts/uncles names, but didn't see mine. DH is like, we are at table 19. A minute later, he was like, are you seriously still looking? Your name isn't over there, it's over here under the Ns. I totally forgot I RSVPd under my new name and that my name had changed.
