Married now wedding later

Amber, on March 15, 2021 at 6:14 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 6
So my fiancee and I have been together for almost 3 years now. And with covid he is not working and paying $2000 out of pocket for insurance. We are discussing getting married now and then having the real wedding next summer like we planned. This would this save us $10000 because of his insurance. But would it make our actual wedding less special?

Nope. It wouldn’t make it less special. We eloped after covid happened. It made it MORE special for us. 1st of all we got to get married on our actual anniversary date which was never an option for our big wedding. Secondly since we are already married we can tailor our wedding “ceremony” to how we want it. It can be a vow renewal if we want, it can be a regular wedding ceremony if we want or we can pick and choose what parts to keep & what to add in because we are already married. I never got to wear my wedding dress. I never got to have the walk down the aisle moment and we are all really looking forward to it. Our friends and family know the circumstances we were under and cant wait to join us to celebrate.

Nope. This was a thing before covid as well - fondly called a “paper wedding” - and we’ve gone out to celebrate that day with friends and then go their real wedding later and think nothing of it. This isn’t uncommon in circles where one person goes back to school.
That said, if you haven’t double checked that he can’t be on your insurance as a domestic partner via an affidavit, that is worth a check as it is becoming more common.

I don’t think so. Though I haven’t been in this situation, I am sure a vow renewal will be just as special and magical.

Nope! And you get TWO EVENTS. An intimate elopement for you two and any type of vow renewal you want later!

Not at all. You will still have those same wedding feelings and it will still be a very special day.
