Mary Kay Pampering Party??

It's Mrs. E, on January 6, 2014 at 9:00 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

So, the other day I received a random text from someone saying that they were from Mary Kay saying that I won a free wine and cheese pampering party for me and 6 of my friends. I ignored it because I felt like it's some sales pitch to get me to buy their products. Now, she texted me again asking if I received her text. I asked her where she got my info and she said that someone entered my information at a bridal registry, store, bridal show or other event. I don't remember signing up for anything with Mary Kay. I'm pretty sure I didn't. Anyways, has this happened to any of you before?

I have a Mary Kay business and we do pampering parties to meet new potential customers but also to teach correct skin care. If she is nice and not pushy it can be really fun. Mary Kay's philosophy is to treat people how you want to be treated and not be pushy. Some women don't follow that and give the rest of us a bad image. I would get all her info. and look at her website to make sure she is real.

Davids Bridal was doing a thing with them a while back and sold them my info. maybe they're doing it again? it really depends on the consultant though--I hate the pushy ones but I also have a close friend who sells it and she's great and knows a lot about the products.

SoonToBeMrsE, I got a call like that as well. When pressed, the Mary Kay consultant told me that the information was received from David's Bridal. We went to one and it turned out there wasn't a lot of pampering. We were shown how to "clean" our faces using Mary Kay cosmetics. We (the "ladies") did all the work. Yes, I liked the products but if I had known what the "pampering party" actually was, I can say without a doubt we would have skipped it!

Mary Kay has a "no touch" policy

Know it is a sales pitch. It can be fun, but it is an attempt to sell product, like a candle party or jewelry party or whatever.

Brenda, I am surprised to hear that. I usually equate pampering with a massage or something like that. I would never expect to "clean" my own face at a pampering party!

I used to be a Mary Kay consultant and Brenda is correct. "no touch" policy. I actually felt a little odd when I went to my MUA because I was so used to this policy.

I have one of these scheduled simply because I like some of their products and plan to buy a few things while she's here. A friend is coming over for it.

I thought she got my information from a Bridal Show but it wouldn't surprise me if it was from DB. Although I can't figure out why they would pass me to a consultant who lives so far away; I actually have a Mary Kay lady I buy from right down the street from me. Whatever I guess.

When we say pampering for us it means girlfriend time, relaxing, having fun, playing with different products.

I haven't heard anything about DB giving people's information away. I'm sorry that happened. The unit that I am in and myself don't agree with that. We meet people on our own and work very hard for our business. I am going to look into this more because I am pretty sure it is against company policy.

This is a selling ploy from Mary Kay. I got the same call and unfortunately fell for it. The lady came to my house basically trying to sell her stuff and get my friends as part of her selling team, it's a bunch of bs. Since then I've received calls saying I won the same pamper party from bridal shows I registered for but never attended.

It's a sales party and probably DB or a wedding show sold them your info. I went off on several of them. They are pretty high pressure.

I LIKE MK products but I hate the parties. Tell them you already have a consultant and you are not interested...unless you are really, really into high pressure sales.

David bridal sold them my info but i enjoyed the pampering party. All the girls used their coupons and each bought me something. you really dont have to spend money if you dont want too.

Well my gown is from DB so maybe that's it. It was just so weird because she used my full first name and via text, so it caught me way off guard. I politely told her I wasn't interested and she just said ok and backed off.

I won one at abridal show. It was a fun silly girl day. It was all focused on skin care, no make up. No one ended up buying anything. I got a couple of free things bc i am the bride and one of my friends won a lip gloss.

I’m a personal use Mary Kay consultant. Basically I’ve been active for a few years now but I just stay active and sell the minimum a year to keep my 50% discount. My MIL is also a Mary Kay consultant; she’s who got me into it. Like the ladies said above, she’s just trying to get you to test the product. They can be fun…it’s nice when the consultant isn’t pushy. The only thing with me is when the consultant takes the time to do that…and that’s her income I always feel an obligation to buy something, with any type of business like that.
