Maryland September Wedding

I need advice! What would you do? My wedding is scheduled for September 26 in Maryland. Some say I should go ahead and postpone while others including my fiancé says to continue planning and make my finale decision end of July/August.

Thanks for writing all this out! It's so annoying that there's not stricter guidance/clarity on all this. But I too am feeling optimistic about September! I want to send out invitations in the next week or so so people can start considering travel arrangements, but we will make a final decision of whether to postpone by early July (I have a May 2021 backup date).

So I recently stumbled upon this for Maryland:

    Social Gatherings (indoor and outdoor):

Phase 1: Limited to 10 persons

Phase 2: Limited to a maximum of 50 people or 1 person/family unit per 200 sq ft., whichever is lower. *Not permitted until Hogan lifts restrictions.

Phase 3: Limited to a maximum consistent with state guidelines, 1 person/family unit per 100 sq. ft., whichever is lower. *Not permitted until Hogan lifts restrictions.

So right now, Maryland is only allowing social gatherings of 10 or fewer. Hogan has not lifted that restriction. Just thought I'd share what I found! Smiley smile

I'm getting married in August and with this information, it does not look promising.

Thanks! Do you have a link to it? I saw something a while ago about 50 person limit for phase 2 but it confused me since we’re in phase 2 now and there’s no update on gathering limit.

So it's Montgomery County's plan but when you compare Phase 2 to other counties in the state it is extremely similar, which is why I believe this is what we will probably see across the state. Again nothing for sure since Hogan hasn't come out with any official numbers, which is quite frustrating.

I also noticed this so I did quite a bit of research. Super frustrating, I feel like every other state has numbers with phases and we don't have much. But I did ask my y fiance's best friend who is a lawyer and he said wording can be really tricky and they write it very carefully but based on what he is seeing the 10 person limit is still mandatory. He also mentioned Hogan signed an executive order and he is continuing to amend them as he changes things. The executive order's are viewable by the public and found very easily actually. This is the most up to date executive order he signed and this is what it states about large gatherings (directly copied from his order):

"Gatherings Larger Than 10 Persons Prohibited. Social, community, recreational,
leisure, and sporting gatherings and events of more than 10 people (“large gatherings
and events”) are hereby prohibited at all locations and venues, including but not
limited to parades, festivals, conventions, and fundraisers. Planned large gatherings
and events must be canceled or postponed until after termination of the state of
emergency and the proclamation of the catastrophic health emergency has been
    rescinded."

Just thought I'd share! But I feel you on the frustrated part!

A local photographer I follow posted screenshots on Instagram from Governor’s office. Hoping there will be additional information soon but she said can contact them through website also.

Can you share the screenshots? I’m just curious because I haven’t seen that anywhere. It’s also strange because today is the 11th and that doesn’t give anyone notice. I just called my photographer and asked and she said she has not been told anything about weddings happening soon. So I’m interested to see exactly what was said.

Hmm it’s not letting me upload but I checked the Governor website and the gatherings order has been superseded. Nothing else though so hopefully more guidance in the future coming soon?

Could you send me that link? I wasn’t able to find that information. I checked his most recent executive order and it hasn’t lifted that restriction. This is all so confusing.

So I found the executive order you saw. I wonder if he is going to comment on it at some point. Still without anything new I assume the ten people hasn’t officially changed.

I always hope at his briefings someone will ask about weddings but it never happens lol

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier! If you look here it says that the gathering order is superseded. My planner confirmed the 50% capacity for indoor gatherings. Masks heavily encouraged but only required depending on individual building policy.

That’s okay! Thank you! Smiley smile

So I reached out to my venue and they got back to about this. They said that doesn’t specifically apply to weddings, they did see it though. They told me they cancelled all weddings through July. They also said they have reached out for more information regarding social distancing, dancing, mask requirements and things like that. So it sounds like it really depends on the venue. Many states have specific guidelines for weddings, we don’t which I think is something he needs to address to make it clear. I don’t want a wedding where people can’t dance or have to wear masks.
This is also very interesting..the health advisor is definitely concerned with things Hogan is allowing to open, especially large gatherings. So I wonder if after a few weeks he’ll change his mind. I guess everything is still just so up in the air. https://www.mymcmedia.org/hogan-public-health-adviser-concerned-with-some-state-reopening-plans/

I totally agree! I think part of being frustrated is coming with all the uncertainty.

Btw here is a link with the info I found yesterday. But it does seem like it’s mostly up to specific venues/individual counties etc.
