Mashed Potato Bar - yay or nay?

I love the idea of a mashed potato bar and feel like it would be something different and fun. My caterer quoted me $5pp for:

Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes and Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Offered with Your Guests Choice of

Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Sour Cream, Chives, Whipped Butter, Chopped Broccoli, Pecans, Cinnamon Butter, Raisins, Molasses

Served in a martini glass!

It would be $500 for 100 guests, does this sound like a fair price? Has anyone done this at their wedding or been to a wedding with one? How was it?

I asked this question last week (mashed potini bar)... Everyone said it's a great idea. And at $5?? Do it! I will be paying double that.

I think that's a fair price. We wanted to have one originally, but our venue doesn't offer that as an add on. Such a bummer because I love mashed potato bars!

The only issue I see with this is that a martini glass is not a big enough vessel for all that mashed potato-y goodness. I suggest stainless steel mixing bowls.
