Mason Jar Favors - - Opinions Please!!!

Mrs.Rebeiro, on June 11, 2013 at 2:25 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 31

OK so I am DIY'ing almost all of my wedding which I think you all know... I am ordering plain mason type drinking jars (with handles) online and my step mother (who is uber crafty) is going to either be painting or etching them to be given as favors (also to be utilized as main drinking glass for the evening) I have a few questions though that I need help/opinions on...

1) Should I do the traditional favor logo w/ our names and date and a graphic, our monogram, or something without our names so people use them more often (ideas too please!)

2) should I have these for just the adults (18 ), everyone 13 , or for everyone? If just adults or 13 what should I do for the younger attendees?

This is a very casual function so I really am not looking at going all out crazy on wedding favors..

    My opinion.

Leave them as is or add an embellishment that can be taken off, serve them to all guests, and craft a cool fun sign about the favor/drinking class.

Painting them generally does not hold up with using.

That's where etching came in - as well as using glass paint and baking them with a sealant (she does dish sets all the time) I am more looking for what people would prefer to receive Smiley smile

If it were me, I'd love to have the date and names, with or without logo (take it easy on your mom, here!), so that every time I use it, I think of your wedding.

I have an etched wine glass that I got as a favor from my last sorority formal and I love it! I think etching it would be very cool. Personally I don't like wedding favors with logos, but I can't think of what else you could put on it besides a logo or something. I've seen mason jar glasses for kids with a little straw. I'm not sure what age they would be appropriate for though.

If its permanent, I would leave your names and date off. A symbol or flower would be nice though.

So if I were a guest...

    1) If they had your logo or date/graphic/monogram, I would not want them because i don't have mason jar glasses and they wouldn't match anything I have. Also, most people I know wouldn't want them if they were personalized with someone else's info, no matter how much they love the couple.

    2) I'd do one favor for everyone.

I would only want a mason jar if it were filled with something I could eat...like apple butter or pepper jelly or a cookie mix, or popcorn or candy. I wouldn't know what to do with it otherwise...maybe give it to my mom for when she makes jam next?

You could just use a label to put your message on it if you wanted.

I'm doing the exact same thing for favors. personally, I'm leaving them blank. I feel like they are more likely to take them home and use them if they aren't decorated. If you chose to decorate, I personally wouldn't like the names/dates. Do the fun napkins or something. I'm thinking of getting the free business cards from Vista Print with a thank you on one side and a place to write your name on the other, and tie them on with cute string. It personalized is with the card, but then they can take it off and use it. Also got the cute paper striped straws.

I'm providing the younger kids with a bag of coloring sheets, crayons and some sort of plastic cup I'm thinking? need to look more into this.

Its not a traditional mason jar - they are mugs see pic.. and I know of the ones with the tops and straws but what I am ordering do not use the tops (they are specifically drinking jars) and do not fit the mason jar tops

I would prefer something simple - your names and date or a catchy little saying. I don't think I would use one that is all painted up as much as ones like these...

I, too, would have enough for everyone probably ages 3 or 4 and up.

We bought beer steins and wine glasses at a cheap store that sells things for a dollar. We're putting a zombie silhouette on the beer steins for me and elephant silhouettes on the wine glasses for her. Nothing else, that way people have a cool stein or wine glass they can use anytime. We used that glass paint you can get at any craft store and baked the glasses so it becomes permanent.

@Watts517 I am also ordering the paper straws - And I love your idea! I may just attach a tag - I'm not sure why i didn't think of that considering that is exactly what my STDs are!!

As far as the kids go I will have to think something up!!

I would do them for everyone. I saw this blog post from my photographer the other day from a wedding where they did Mason Jars as escort cards / glasses for the night / favors. You may have to scroll a little to get to that part of the post sorry I couldn't post the photo directly.

I hate favors that have someones name on that isn't removable. I wouldnt use it as often if I even kept it. I would do some sort of removable tag, etching in something simple and generic that isnt wedding specific, or the chalkboard idea PP added.

I do want to add that I have been to two weddings where this was the favor- each bride took home over half of them. A lot of people (especially guys) hate the mason jars. And many dont want just one. I ended up with 4 of them because they were trying to get rid of them. We kept them for like 6 months before my husband asked to toss them.

Honestly, if I was a guest getting a mason jar glass as a favor, I'd be stoked...until I realized the couple's names didn't come off.

Don't know if this might fit with your theme, but could you do those cute old-timey paper straws with a little gift tag on them? I love those things. Saw them at a wedding once and thought it was the cutest thing ever. (edited...durrr, missed others talking about straws, but I second those.)
