Matron of Honor Gift - got it, now need some opinions

MrsC, on November 4, 2022 at 10:01 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

Thanks to all who expressed an opinion about a gift for my BFF/Matron of Honor. I bought her a beautiful white cultured pearl and sterling silver Rosary (we became friends at our RC church - I'm in her choir, she's the Music Director, and we are Prayer/Rosary Partners). The wedding is in June so I thought pearls would be perfect and I don't think any of her Rosaries are real pearls. I also had a silver-plated trinket box made, engraved with her first name, Thank You for being my Matron of Honor, Love, my first name on the top. I'm also having made a porcelain ornament personalized with our names and the wedding date. In 2 weeks, we are having a "girls day" together at her house. I needed a Catholic annulment for my 1st marriage, which came through recently, & thanks to all her efforts and prayers, and her husband is away for a few days so we are going to celebrate (her hubby and she took me out for dinner when the annulment letter was received), and have a sort of "bridal shower", just us two - she's making a special dinner for us and put a bottle of champagne on ice just for this occasion! Now for my question: I am just dying to give her the Rosary gift and I should have it all in time for our Girls Day (she has some gifts for me too!), along with the ornament? Should I wait until closer to the wedding in June, (her birthday is in early May and I always take her out for a nice lunch) or hold onto the Rosary gift and just give her the ornament? I should also mention that this lady (and her husband who, btw, will be our wedding photographer - he's a retired printer and photographer) have been extremely kind and generous to me and to my husband especially in the past year. So, should I give her the "big gift" or just the ornament? Thanks!

I couldn't edit my post, so the question is: Should I give my big gift to my MOH in 2 weeks on our "Girls Day", or wait til closer to the wedding, like on her birthday in May? I have an ornament being made too, should I just give her that now?

If this is a thank you gift for being in the wedding, then you'll give it to her in close proximity (a day or two) of the wedding.

I agree with Becky. If these are gifts to thank her for being your Matron of Honor, I would give them to her the day of the wedding, or maybe a day or two before. That is typically when bridal party thank you gifts are given. If you want to give her a birthday gift, I would gift her something else for that purpose.

Typically thank you gifts for attendants are given either the morning of the wedding or at the rehearsal dinner. Do whatever you feel comfortable with

Yes, it is and that's what I will do, thanks!! I actually have other little "best friend" gifts I can give her on our Girls Day.

OK, thanks! Our wedding is at the 10AM Sunday Mass; my Matron of Honor is also the church organist so she will be playing for the 8AM Mass at church that Sunday. We're having a small ceremony called "convalidation" because hubby and I have been legally married for 38 years but never had a Catholic ceremony. There's no rehearsal dinner, so perhaps I'll take my MOH out for a nice lunch a few days before the wedding and present her gift then.
