The wedding we're attending is in Paia so we will spend 4-5 days there. I'm looking for a second location on Maui for the rest of our trip. I've been looking at the western coast - Lahaina or Kaanapali but really have no idea! Anyone have any advice or past experiences? Good or bad are welcome!

Only $255 per night and it's a one bedroom condo, not just a hotel room...I like having the kitchen available for some meals too Smiley smile

@Lauren, yes I was talking about Front Street. My only experience in Lahaina proper I guess haha. We always stay in Kihei though when we're in Maui for Front Street Halloween, and Kihei is pretty awesome. I don't know any fancy hotels though in the city, we have a timeshare. We'll also drive up to Makena or Wailea area for beaches. Big Beach is pretty great!

Prioritize what you want in the place you stay. in September, Kihei and Lahaina are MISERABLE hot so I highly recommend have AC or at least an on-site pool

I floated Kihei/Wailea past FH and he is set on Paia for the first couple of days. I had found Spyglass Rentals so we may go that route. For the second part of the trip I'll look into all of suggestions!

And @King - we live in FL so I think we're used to miserable hot - although we're also used to AC too!

Paia is a really fun town. Charley's at night gets hopping and is notorious for celeb sightings like willie nelson, owen wilson, and lindsay lohan when they're in town. Wille Nelson is a part owner. Anthony's Coffee in paia is my favorite place for smoothies. San Lorenzo bikini store is to-die for there also.

Haiku is the next town over and you can rent cottages out in the jungle which is kinda neat.

Hi Kimberly - Sorry for the delay getting back! I think I'd stay in Kaanapali if I were you. Have you checked out whatahotel.com? They have good promos that might help with the budget. The Westin in Kaanapali has a deal for $299 for a garden room (with free upgrade if available at check-in), included full breakfast, a $50 resort credit, and 10% the spa! For $350 you could have the same deal for a guaranteed ocean view! The Hyatt also has a deal on whatahotel. I don't care for the location of that hotel (at the end of the hotel strip, and not a great beach) and as King said, it REALLY is geared for kids, even more than the Westin. The Sheraton is also nice! The location is awesome....right in front of black rock and is next to Whaler's Village where there are great shops and restaurants! They have nice pools and a cool restaurant where you can watch the cliff dive ceremony off of black rock!

Also not sure if you and your FH would be interested in opening a credit card, but you guys could get up to 4 nights of a free stay at the new Hyatt Andaz in Wailea if you both got this card:

    https://creditcards.chase.com/credit-cards/hyatt-card.aspx

If anything, maybe that could sway your FH to stay in Wailea for the first part and then do Kaanapali for the second part! Sure would justify the cost of a cab! :-P

Sorry I didn't check back to see your question but we're staying at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort and Spa... I see others have already recommended that which is good... makes me excited too lol.... if you end up staying there reach out to me.. I'd love to know how it goes since you will literally be there only a few weeks before me! Smiley smile

Thank you again ladies! I think I have done so much searching I'm almost at information overload. I've got it in my mind that assuming we spend the first part of our trip in Paia, we should spend the second part in Lahaina/Kaanapali. Although I've also looked at Kapalua, Napili, Kihei and Wailea as well (type-A alert)!

We're probably staying here for Paia - http://www.spyglassmaui.com/skyline-apartament

I want to have a perfect honeymoon (how could we not, we're going to Maui after all) but its all blending together and is getting a bit overwhelming. I've never heard of Whatahotel so I'll definitely look into that! And the Hyatt card is very tempting if we decide to stay in Wailea!

The grand wailea does have the best spa ever you must go, I actually just got back from Hawaii if your looking for across from the beach and very well priced you should stay at the condos in Maui Hill its on south kihei road. Its walking distance to the 5 palms go from 3-7 its half price appies.

Good luck in your booking! I actually just found a way to save us $660 by changing around our dates for our Maui honeymoon 08/23-09/6! We have a condo being gifted to us for part of those dates. We're doing the Napili Kai Beach Resort first for the first week (stay 6 nights get the 7th free), then going to the condo in Wailea for 4 nights, then ending at the Four Seasons for 3 nights. Starting in Sept. the rates drop majorly for the Four Seasons. As for Napili, I adore Napili Kai and it is in your budget. But it doesn't have the greatest pools if that's something you're after. We go for the incredible bays...Napili, Kapalua, and Honokeana (best bay for TONS of sea turtles, aka honu). If that sounds like something you'd like though, go for it! Its only about a 15 minute drive into Kaanapali/downtown Lahaina. We stayed in Lani 2 last time and it was wonderful. Plus if you say its your honeymoon you may be upgraded to ocean front (Puna buildings or Lani I). The views are the best on the entire island from Puna II in my opinion :-)

September is our off season for sure.

-Wailea Marriot is my fave romantic hotel.

-Spa Grande is extraordinary (wins all the awards every year) but the pools aren't romantic

-hubs has been dying to stay at spyglass in Pa'ia and i hear wonderful things

and I'm always available for hanging out or texting questions to since I do live here full timeSmiley smile

Just a warning for you, I was going to stay at the Hyatt in August, and there is construction going on so I opted not to. I think it still may be going on in September.

@MrsKing I'm so happy you said that the Wailea Marriot is one of the more adult hotels and romantic... that makes me even more excited to stay there when we go!! Thanks for all of your input!!

Awesome - glad to hear Spyglass is on your radar @MrsKing. We are lucky to have you to share your Maui expertise!

Lauren - I think you are right about Napili/Kapalua. Being close but not too close to all of the built up resorts sounds about right.

We have never been but after a lot of research decided on Kaanapali. We heard its better for first time maui travelers. We had a hard time deciding between the hyatt, westin, and sheraton. But ended up choosing sheraton because of the beach and black rock.
