Maui in October

Kristen, on December 27, 2016 at 7:10 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 11

FH and I have decided that we want to go to Maui for our honeymoon, but are unsure of two things: 1) what is a must see/to-do when we do go. 2) Should we be worried for hurricanes that may come through?

Not sure about hurricanes. The road to Hana is an adventure (take a bus trip and don't try to drive yourself) and very beautiful, including the black sand beach. Sunrise at Haleakala is amazing as well.

We are also going to Maui! We were there 3 years ago and loved it.

We plan on doing The Road to Hana, sunset on Haleakala, and probably a sunset cruise since we didn't get to do this last time.

Highlights from the previous visits was going to Lahaina, and the beaches at Wailea.

Snorkeling is supposed to be great at almost every beach, so we plan on bringing our own gear (it's cheaper on Amazon than some of the rental companies).

I've been on Pinterest a lot researching, so I suggest doing that!

We did a week in maui for our honeymoon the last week of august into early September. While we were there there were hurricanes hitting other islands (so the weather wasn't the *best*) and honestly the weather was still freaking awesome.

It was my favorite place I've ever been ever and the best trip of my life.

We did the national parks. Iao & the one with the huge crater. I'd recommend both!

My favorite thing we did was a snorkel boat trip. We ended up renting our own snorkel gear for $6 a day after that and went snorkeling in turtle town for a couple extra mornings too! You can walk up to the beach at turtle town and see green sea turtles about 250m out of the shoreline.

We have gone to Hawaii 3 times in October (Maui included) and each time it has been wondering in the 70's and sunny everyday! We are also going next Sept/October for our honeymoon to Oahu and Kauai. The hurricanes that Hawaii get very rarely make it full blown to Maui. We were there when Hurricane Anna hit and only the reminisces of it hit us with some rain one day.

Some of the things that I can recommend on Maui are:

Chang's Beach (its a really tiny beach and you have to be looking to find the parking lot/entrance but totally worth it!)

    Mama's Fish House (best food!)

Watch the diver with the torch at Black rock in Kaanapali in the evening

the wind surfers in Paia are fun to watch

sunrise at Haleakala (get there early to get a spot at the very top)

we did the road to hana once, it is a pretty drive and worth it (just don't stop at twin falls not worth the time)

and of course go to a Luau!

Thank you for the suggestions! Everything sounds so fun! Are there any Luaus that are better than others or ones not worth the money?

Love Maui and was there this October. No signs of hurricanes and it didn't even rain. Go watch the sunrise at the top of Haleakala. Dress warm!! It gets freezing up there. Get there early or you won't be able to park. Like 4am early. Go to Mama's Fish House for dinner. It's expensive but incredible. Make reservations now. It's books up months in advance. Other than that just enjoy the beautiful beaches and snorkeling. You can swim our pretty much anywhere and see sea turtles and tropical fish. Have fun!

Thank you so much for the wonderful suggestions! My in laws are going to the Big Island in June, and keep pushing us to do the same for our honeymoon. With all the great suggestions, I don't think I want to go anywhere but Maui!

Maui is not in the hurricane belt, that is the Caribbean.

Hawaii is amazing, all of it! The suggestions given here are awesome. I totally agree to do a tour with the Road to Hana. We did a private tour in a nice mini-bus so we weren't with 40 other people - just one other couple. It made it so nice and we could easily stop at different places along the way because we weren't in a huge bus. Our guide also took us to a beach where the sea turtles come every day to sun....this was something extra that got thrown in but was amazing! (See photo below) Contact me if you'd like to know the company that did our tour.

The Old Lahaina Luau is the best - that's the one the locals go to! Very well done, organized, great food, and a fantastic show...and it's right by the beach....beautiful sunsets....a perfect setting.

By the way, we traveled in October - great weather with 1 day of clouds.
