We got married on Maui July 1st and it was nearly perfect! I had no idea what I was doing but planned it nearly all myself and even diy’d a few things! I did my own makeup which I felt good about. My friend did my hair which was a blessing! I paid for photography and videography (no video yet). My photographer did good but she captured a lot of weird faces and far away pics so we don’t really have many good ones of us smiling nicely. Also she didn’t get a single shot of the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen! We planned the whole wedding around sunset because I love sunset shots and she didn’t get any :/ but she did capture the day well and the good ones did turn out beautifully. We’re having an at home reception Friday for about 100 people and I’ve done lots of DIY for that. I did schedule another photographer for that day (inexpensive) so I think I’m going to have her shoot a few portraits of us. If anyone has any questions about Maui or Kauai (honeymoon) or at home receptions ask away!oh and my dress was made on etsy (lacemarry) then altered wonderfully by a seamstress. Wedding planning was stressful, I literally had nooo idea what I was doing and very little help outside of the internet! A few things definitely didn’t turn out how they were supposed to but since I did all the planning I was the only one who knew. Also make sure you really have enough time to get ready, my wedding was 530 and we got so rushed toward the end of getting ready. There were some shots I expected to get pre wedding that just didn’t get to happen. Happy planning!!

Looks like you had a perfect day and a beautiful wedding. I am getting married in January in Oahu Hawaii. My future husband's family is from Russia and is very small. I have a large family, so to not make him feel like my family was over trumping his, we decided to have a small immediate family DW. However, we also are having a "greet and meet the Newly Weds Amanda and Alex gathering back home. As there it will be about the family and friends of ours that didn't come to the ceremony in Hawaii. Any thoughts or ideas would be so appreciated. I too am trying to do this without the crazy cost of a wedding planner. We have rented a larger sleep 20 people house very close to the place we are having ceremony. I will be hosting a small family catered dinner and small party at this house as well as the backyard is adjacent to the ocean view. No need for the beach front venue. Glad to hear this all can work out. Your right, and I think all wedding have this glitches. Amanda
