May 30th wedding - invitations? postpone? help!

Saxby, on April 3, 2020 at 9:50 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

My wedding is scheduled for May 30th. We were going to send out invitations last weekend, but have been holding out waiting for more info. Our venue is only rescheduling up to May 15th or so and is refusing to let us reschedule without charging us an additional fee (profiting off of a pandemic maybe??) and so we are considering breaking the contract and finding a new venue for a later date.

My question is, since I have all these invitations sitting here, should I still send them for the May 30th date and that would give us more time to make a fully informed decision, since people are waiting on them at this point? Or is that useless and we should go ahead and make the call? We are definitely leaning towards postponing, but we're not sure if we can make that call so soon. Any advice, thoughts?? I'm so sorry to everyone having to go through this, it really makes your head spin! Thanks everyone.

I think it’s safe to assume that things will not be back to normal by the end of May, unfortunately.

My state is shut down until at least June 10th. I'd 100% postpone a May wedding.

I think totally depends on WHERE you are located and you're states regulations....

Many states are providing exemptions to weddings, which I personally think is great, and just limiting receptions. Since the nation is expected to peak here in the next couple of weeks, we can expect for restrictions to slowly be relaxed afterwards. That being said, it's probably not a bad idea to have a back-up plan. Sending out the invites now or waiting would be totally up to you and if you think the venue would eventually reschedule or not. If you are able to wait a week or two, you may be able to reschedule with your venue without incurring the fee.

Yes it definitely depends on where you are located, I am located in Dallas, TX and my wedding is supposed to be May 23 and the Dallas county just extended their stay at home order until May 20th and unfortunately I am now looking for backup dates and I am fortunate that all my vendors are working with me and just waiting for my new date.

I would postpone unfortunately. I’d hold off on sending invites and just send a “Postponed. Date TBD” card out and that way you can wait until May 15 for an extension from the venue and get your money back.

    Hi Saxby,

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, and I know the uncertainty of everything is crazy stressful!!

You are definitely not alone right now! We've started gathering initial tips and resources from WeddingWire here: COVID-19 Wedding Support Central,

If it were me and I were set on a specific date, I would have a small ceremony with a bigger reception in a few months. I'm not sure everything will be back to "normal" by the end of May. However, I truly wish it were!

    Sending you lots of love!

    Smiley heart
