May have to do my own makeup

Dezandkamsmom, on June 13, 2019 at 11:26 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 50

Why can't I do the eyeshadow right??!!May have to do my own makeup 1

44 year old skinMay have to do my own makeup 2

Excuse the eyebrowsMay have to do my own makeup 3

My wedding is in 3 weeks. I had almost 5 mths to plan but when I first asking around about makeup artist, most was not available during the holiday weekend, July 6th. There is a 17 year old that I know who does make up for all of the girls for proms & dances & she does a fabulous job. That is literally all she does is buy make up & watch Youtube videos. I went for a trial with her & she seemed to have caked on the foundation. I think it had to do more with the powder. I am 44 & my skin is older than the young ladies she does make up on. I am afraid I will have to end up doing my own make up & I want my pictures to be great...and my hair which I am doing on my own. Short hair. Anyway, I definitely have to get my eyebrows waxed some because they have gotten out of control and I will tweeze where needed. If I don't do that now, my make up will not adhere to my face. Anyone doing there on make up? What products do you use? Especially foundation that has good coverage but is light & won't emphasize wrinkles. Lol. I am at work and we are slow & I played with makeup...I have never been good with it. I was a tomboy growing up & just never work much. Thanks for any feedback.

One option would be to go to Sephora and buy $50 worth of good product which means you get a free makeover, and have the girls show you how to apply eyeshadow. I also think watching youtube videos is a great idea!

For foundation I will be using Estée Lauder double wear. It’s long lasting, has great coverage, and doesn’t contain any SPF so you won’t get flashback on photos. I don’t wear primer or concealer, but I heard Tarte Shape Tape is a good concealer. For eye shadow, I really like Urban Decay, and their eye lid primer works amazing! I never get any creasing and I feel like it works the best with the Urban Decay shadows, but any should do.

I agree with PP, look at some youtube vids. I really like Lisa Eldridge, if you want a more natural look. I’m stealing some of her tips!

Thank you! I am still going to work on the eyeshadow situation. Lol. AND I buy make up at our local Merle Norman which is not available to do the make up that day but went yesterday for some sample lip colors and tried a powder.

Bless it!! There are definitely pros & cons to a holiday weekend wedding. Maybe I could do the foundation part & the girl who I did the trial with can do the eyeshadow but with different colors. I really want nudes and maybe some shade of pink. I want the focus to be on my eyes. Not lips. I hope you find someone! At least I have short hair & will not be having an up do. I am going to practice some very subtle beach waves this weekend.

I personally love Hourglass Foundation with Becca Backlight Primer. I’m in my late 30s and it gives great coverage, but doesn’t look heavy. I’m actually meeting a younger makeup artist tomorrow for my trial. I’m wondering if she will be able to do appropriate makeup for my skin. I think you look beautiful!

Thank you so much for the compliment & suggestion. I may need to go again & let her try something else. The lighting in her room was not the greatest either. I want to see what I will look like with bright lights. Lol

You look great! Foundation is super personal. I tend to wear tinted moisturizer more often than real foundation, set with a powder that has some coverage to it. It makes for a lighter finish. If you go to Sephora, you can get samples of different foundations (liquids) to take home and play with. I definitely recommend using a beauty blender or similar sponge (wet it fully and then ring it out well, so that it's uniformly damp) to apply. It helps keep too much product from getting on your skin at once. And use just a touch of powder (you may prefer a translucent one, like Coty Airspun) on a big fluffy brush to set it. It shouldn't look cakey if you use a light hand. Also, setting spray is invaluable for helping melt everything together on your skin.

Like you, I never really learned how to apply makeup. My older sister, though, who has similar coloring to me, is great at it so I asked if she would apply my makeup for my wedding. It gave us some special time together and we did a trial so we could adjust things if needed. If you have a friend or sister who does it well, you can ask them to help you.

I think your makeup looks good! Lashes & lipstick are great! I’d fill the eyebrows a little bit to give them little softer shape. For eyeshadow, you have a pretty large space between your eye & brow, so you shouldn’t go with same shade all the way up to the eyelid. I’d do highlighter shadow under brow arch, and focus with darker shade just around crease & eyelid. Also, for mature skin, skip sparkly or shiny shadow.

For foundation, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 hour is long lasting, with buildable full coverage & doesn’t settle in. You should add setting powder on top. Mac Blot loose powder works great for photos (non-reflective, soft focus) & doesn’t settle in lines & wrinkles. Try not putting too much of it though & skip crows feet area, because it will make fine lines more pronounced.

You’re welcome! Glad if it helps 😊
I wear makeup daily, but it’s pretty basic. I just did my makeup for our engagement shoot using the products I mentioned & it turned out so good & looked great in photos & for the rest of the day! So now I’m tempted to do my own for the wedding (I don’t enjoy others doing my makeup, hair, or nails, I guess I’m not a “normal” bride 😆)
