I was on the generic of Yaz- Gianvi. It was okay but I noticed that it made me super sleepy. There were days were I would sleep for about 12 hours straight! Also, I was extremly moody. Then my doctor switched me to Ortho Tricyclen Lo. It's been okay but I still notice that I'm moody and a bit...

I was on the generic of Yaz- Gianvi. It was okay but I noticed that it made me super sleepy. There were days were I would sleep for about 12 hours straight! Also, I was extremly moody. Then my doctor switched me to Ortho Tricyclen Lo. It's been okay but I still notice that I'm moody and a bit sleepy. Not as much as before but I still notice it. My doctor was talking to me about switching my birth control method. She suggested either the shot or a non hormonal IUD. I wanted to get experiences from you ladies. I know we are all different but knowing what you went though doesn't hurt. So, if you don't mind, please share your experience with me. Thanks in advance!

Typically the doctor will only prescribe an IUD if you have already had a child, it is not readily approved for women who have never been pregnant. But since you have had so many problems with the hormones, it might be worth a try.

Def don't do the Depo I know 4 girls that got pregnant while on depo, and 3 of the 4 gained 15-30 lbs each in the first month!!

I was thinking of switching my BC control methods. Just got off the pill (made me break out more,etc.). I am considering the IUD, but I feel weird about it lasting 5 years. What if between now and then I want to have kids? Can I take it out and get prego right away? Haven't researched this yet, so please feel free to chime in.

For me when it came to the shot it was not a good thing for me. i want from 163lbs to 200 within 6mons. Working out all the time and eating the same. it made me gain so much weight so quickly that my blood pressure shot up and it was causeing me to have abnormal growths which they had thought was cancer and it was always happening. once i got off of it i didn't have any more issues even though i never want back to the 163. After that issue i just left birth control alone. i was looking into birth control, but me and FH talked about it and he knows the difficulty i have had in the past so we decided to just use condoms

I got the ParaGard IUD (copper and non-hormonal) placed approximately 5-6 months ago and I love it. I don't feel it other than when it was placed and then for about a few hours afterward I had the worst cramps of my life but I just took some Ibuprofen and went to bed and have felt fine since. It is good for seven years.

Also, I had tried the NuvaRing before but didn't like it. I tried to give it some time before I told my doctor I didn't want to use it anymore but I could not control myself with food. I would go to the store and seriously want to buy EVERYTHING I saw!! I wanted to eat everything and I did find that is one of the side effects. I know everyone is different so not everyone experiences some of the side effects or has the same ones as others do but that I what I experienced so I stopped it.

I love the NuvaRing. No issues at all. It's easy and you only have to think about it once a month!

I have Mirena-IUD. I like it and I would refuse any other means of birth control.

@April Bride- I talked to my doctor about, what if I wanted to get pregant before 5 years?? He said he would take it out whenever I feel that I want to conceive before the 5 years and I should be pregnant with-in the first few months of being off of Mirena.

I tried just about everything hormonal. I was a wreck and a half and then I got the non-hormonal copper IUD. Smiley smile LOVE LOVE LOVE! It was such a pain getting it in my uterus but it was worth it. I am 26 and never had a baby so the doctors told me that I shouldn't get the IUD and it would likely expel itself. 2 years later it is fine and still in place! Only downside is that my periods are much longer and painful. I think it was worth it even with those side effects, the IUD is like 99.9% effective, no hormones, no weight gain, no depression and not having remember it!! Good luck!!

Oh nice thing about the Copper non-hormonal IUD is that when you want to get preggo all you need to do is go to the doctor and have them take it out. Now your all ready!!
