I had some time after my dentist appt the other day and snuck into a bridal shop to try on dresses for the first time ever. I’m going dress shopping this weekend with the girls, but needed an idea of what to expect beforehand. I’m on the shorter side in height and when I showed my FH this picture of me vs the model, he laughed!! Granted, I was not wearing any shoes and was not standing on any platform. But still, how rude! Smiley xd

Shorter brides (around 5’-3”), what dress style did you choose? Please show me your dress!

I am 5’ and just said yes to a mermaid/fit & flare dress! Ball gowns swallowed me, I feel like the mermaid style made me appear taller. I think that dress is beautiful, there is obviously going to be a ton of left over material on the bottom for us shorties, but when its our size it will be perfect! Mine was about 6” or more too long!

I love this dress! Looks great on you.

So much to take off the bottom, if only the price of the dress can be taken off to match!

This struggle is so real! I'm 4'11" and this is my dress. I originally wanted something more form-fitting, but they kept hitting me the wrong way and would have needed too many alterations to make it look right

Not a short bride—a tall bride, but just here to say that 1) that is what alterations are for 2) no one looks like the models!!! I’m attaching a photo of me in the unaltered dress versus the model!

    I’m about 5’1. I went for an A-line gown.
I ’d not even think to try a mermeaid or fitted as I’m not comfortable with tight dresses.

I am only 5 '1 and opted for a sheath/fitted dress..I certainly don't look like the model in the stock photo, but I loved how it was fitted and didn't overwhelm me. I ended up getting custom length to not take away from the lace detail at the bottom...Because I am shorter, I felt like so many dresses that I tried completely swallowed me whole!

Sorry for the extreme close up, not sure why it is like that!

So very true. While my younger daughter hasn't married yet, her prom dress looked completely different on her than the model and she's a 5'10" size 4 with a 36 in inseam. The dress still needed about 3 inches cut off. The amount of photoshopping is beyond ridiculous. In real life the model wouldn't look like the picture.

Agreed with others! The dress looks beautiful on you! I’m 4’8” and went with a ballgown. I’ve always imagined myself in a ballgown and fell in love with my dress.

Thank you! I have my first fitting on June 2. Hopefully she'll be able to reassure me. I liked the PP's comment about our making these dresses "real". Hear hear! Smiley smile

It's so hard!!! I'm about 5'3" and found an amazing A-line at Davids however most of the gowns I tried on before or after AHAHAHAHAHAHA The torso went from about my chin to my knees! That's can't be normally right (I'm slightly exaggerating but still it was insane!) I can't believe the difference it was hilarious to me too! I should have asked for some stilts! There was a dress I loved and nope! (I'd post my dress but FH is totally snooping places trying to see it .... but I so want too lol)
