I had some time after my dentist appt the other day and snuck into a bridal shop to try on dresses for the first time ever. I’m going dress shopping this weekend with the girls, but needed an idea of what to expect beforehand. I’m on the shorter side in height and when I showed my FH this picture of me vs the model, he laughed!! Granted, I was not wearing any shoes and was not standing on any platform. But still, how rude! Smiley xd

Shorter brides (around 5’-3”), what dress style did you choose? Please show me your dress!

Hey we are the same height!

I am 5'3" and about 115 lbs, small bust, decent silhouette. I chose a Melissa Sweet designer dress. I felt that with my height, the fitted dress would suit me best.

This is my dress in petal pink/cashmere. Sorry, I don't have any photos of it on me... final fitting is May 17th, though!

    I found a photo! I was about 8lbs heavier in this photo. I'm 5'3".

This is the Melissa Sweet dress from David's Bridal.

Dress shopping was a success today! I tried on quite a few different style dresses, and my top 3 included a ballgown and a trumpet style dress which I was totally scared of.

Some of the the dresses I tried on and an updated me vs the model in “the dress” Smiley laugh I did have on 3” heels this time, and even with that I will lose about 5” off the bottom.

Thanks for all your helpful tips ladies!

You rock that dress better than the model!!
Advice for your weekend shopping for dresses. Bring along a pair of heels that you may already own. It doesn't matter that they will be the exact height as the ones you will wear, but it gives you a better idea on how the look will be verses no shoes at all. (Unless you plan on wearing flats)
I think this will help you feel more confident in trying on dresses and finding "The Dress"
Also, I am 5'5" and will be wearing a 1 1/2 inch wedge with my dress that I have added a picture of. This dress was originally all the same length front to back but we took 6 1/2 inches off the front and sweeps back to a short train. It really helps on making me feel taller.
    Good luck

The first dress I tried on was a tea length fit and flare and it made me look 6 inches shorter and I'm close to your height lol. I got a different tea length one and may have it hemmed cause it looks pretty long on me

I bought it in December 2017 at The Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul (MN). I did see it at at least 1 other store though when I was shopping. It's a Rebecca Ingram called "Brenda"

I am 5”3 so I feel your pain! When I tried on dresses I was in flats and everything was way too long! I did find my dress and will be picking it up next week.

When we did measurements they assured me that the dress will be perfect. Hayley Paige designed my dress and is also around 5”3 so she understands shorter brides proportions!
