Men throwing the Garter!

Shadia, on August 30, 2020 at 9:23 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 9

Hello everyone! I have a question, I would like for my FH to throw something other then the Garter Belt to his Grooms men. But I'm just having a hard time thinking about what I should suggest to throw. Can you think of some other things? Your ideas are greatly appreciated.

I’ve seen some videos where a man throws a football instead of a garter belt 😀that would be pretty cool if that’s something they’re all into

What about his boutonniere? It would be just like the bouquet.

I’m completely skipping both tosses. I think tossing a garter is tacky and I will only have one bridesmaid who isn’t married or engaged at my wedding (my sister) and she’s in a LTR anyway. Besides, I don’t like the history behind these traditions (they’re dark).

I like the idea of tossing the boutonnière instead of garter

I’m skipping this completely, but an inexpensive tiara could be a fun alternative!

We skipped this. Just pure skipped. It's pretty dated and hasn't aged well as the full tradition. The full tradition being the people who catch the bouquet and garter are supposed to "get married" and dance... even at the adult only weddings it starts to look like Alabama jokes (cousins, siblings, etc)... And at non adult only weddings the child bride/groom is even more cringey.

The partial tradition which is the throw and catch, doesn't make sense to throw flowers you spent $$$ like a football or to be at a formal party throwing your wife's underwear at young boys / old creepy men. It has a lot of layers of ew or why.
If you must, I recommend tossing a cheap backup boutonniere meant for this (think carnation or simple rose) or a cheap bouquet meant for this... It would cost about the same
But if it makes you feel better, most people just don't do it anymore and nobody misses it.

I've seen boutonnieres tossed at stricter religious receptions. Most couples skip the tosses entirely.

My fiance is going to throw a football with the toss garter already around it.
