Menswear Help!!!

NextChapterReady, on May 22, 2019 at 9:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Okay so we are trying to figure out where to rent my FH and his groomsmen's tuxes from. I keep reading horror stories from all of the rental places! I was considering Men's Warehouse, or Romanoff's.

We went to Presidential Tuxedo but they acted appalled that we wanted him to be able to try on the three different styles to see what looked best on his body type. I don't think that it's unreasonable to want to see what traditional, slim, or skinny fit looks like. They basically threw on a jacket on him that was two sizes too small and said here, here's a good idea. Um ... no?

I am going to go to Men's Warehouse this weekend and maybe Romanoff's as well. We are looking for a classic black tux (maybe Calvin Kline or Vera Wang?) and I just want the fit to look nice. We don't have the money to buy a tux and have it fitted, but I'm so nervous about renting. I've seen rentals at other weddings where the tuxes and suits are SO baggy and don't flatter the guys at all and this is what I want to avoid. Also it just makes me INSANELY nervous that all the places basically have the attire coming in two to one days before the wedding. What if it doesn't fit!!!

So what were your experiences? Any recommendations or advice? I'm stressing so hard about this because I want my FH to look and feel great for his wedding day too!

We went to Men's Warehouse. The two men working with us were very thorough with fitting all the guys. I think they measured every inch of everyone! I've known a few people who had recieved the wrong item or it didn't fit properly, and the store was able to rectify the issue very quickly. That said, I'm also nervous about how close they cut it in terms of time.

Hubby rented from MW as a groomsman and as a groom and we had great experiences both times. They were very helpful in getting everything set up and measured.

Look up Jim's Formal Wear online. They are a great retailer and have many outlets across the country. That is where we went to rent FH, groomsmen, and both fathers tuxes. Very good prices as well. Each retailer is different but the one we went to was great so hopefully you could find a good one too! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice! Yes I have read that the guys were measured and things came and were no where CLOSE to the measurements! How does that happen? I wish you the best of luck and hope that it's a good case for myself as well. I understand it's all about the bottom line, but really it's so much money to have no turnaround time in case of an issue! Ugh I hate it! haha

Thank you for the advice! Sadly they don't have a location near enough to us (forgot to mention we are in the central Ohio area). I appreciate the tip!

Honestly, it's probably a mix-up in shipping. They are a huge retailer and have tons of stores across the country. Someone in the warehouse probably accidentally puts the wrong pair of pants in the bag and off it goes. That being said, someone I know had that happen as the groom and they got him the right size suit for the wedding. He looked great at the wedding. I only found out about the mishap because one of our groomsmen was in that wedding party and told us about when we were picking tuxes.

We have only looked at MW so far, and it's a pretty good contender. They only had three color options for renting in both tuxes and suits. FH is going with a suit because our wedding is a little more casual (and it was hard enough to make him wear a suit). It's over $200 to rent, and the suit he put together that he liked the most was going to be around $900 for everything, but they are currently doing a BOGO deal, as they often do. But we are actually leaning towards their custom suit option. He would get a custom suit for $400 that is exactly the way he wants it and fitted. And that's the better deal for him because he doesn't need to wear suits often.

SO, if you want to go the suit route vs a tux, that might be an option to check out! They may even do custom tuxes too, I'm just not sure.

Yes, that's my only hope is that if it does happen it can be corrected in time. If it is a shipping problem and not a measuring problem then it's an invasive issue. I read about 20-30 identical problems between the four places we have to choose from, which makes me anxious to pick one we can trust to do it right.

Originally that was SO what I wanted to do ... it would likely be around $600 and up for purchasing a tux. My FH is willing to get fancy, but not willing for a high price tag and he's all about the savings. I will ask about it, but I am pretty sure he will shoot me down for anything over $200 ... Smiley sad

Yeah, unfortunately buying the suit will be more expensive than renting, BUT the pros are that he gets the exact color he wanted and gets to keep it. We just don't really see the point in spending over $200 to rent when it's not everything he would need and he doesn't get anything out of it, lol.

We haven't looked into it yet, but my coworker did all of her menswear from Belk and everyone looked super nice. I'm not really sure if the prices are comparable, but Belk would be more likely to have sales I would assume?

We chose Men's Wearhouse. Overall it was a good experience but the only issue was that the guys working there were a bit on the young side (not knocking younger people) but I don't know that they knew exactly how to measure our guys the correct way. We ended up having to exchange like 5 pieces total for 3 guys because either the vest, pants, or jacket didn't fit right. Just make sure you let your guys know to make sure they fit early in the week before the wedding when they go pick it up. They made sure to make it right but there is a "cut off" date to get items exchanged. Here is a picture of how nice the suits looked! Smiley smile

Well thankfully our colors are black and white so that’s not an issue regarding correct color! And sadly tuxes are so much more expensive than suits 😩 but that really would be the ideal

They do look nice! Yeah I mean it sounds as if no matter what I’ll have to resign myself to having to exchange some things and ugh really threaten the groomsmen so they know to try on their tuxes when they pick them up!!!

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure to rent from MW they said it was the same. But I could be totally wrong. Good luck with making your decision! Smiley ring

We're doing Men's Warehouse because they color match to David's Bridal. I have a male attendant and a female attendant and want her dress and his vest to tie in. Then we can also pick up the color for ties or whatnot for the groom's party and the dads.

I'm anxious about this too, but you have to start somewhere. I will say that many of the negative experiences I've read about MW and other places comes down to the staff in those stores. It's not that MW does a bad job, or has sub-par suits. It's more that many of their salespeople either don't have the right experience to be as helpful as they should be, or they don't have the customer service skills that we as customers expect. They are often rude, vague, and snotty. But I've also read a bunch of posts that talk about what a wonderful experience MW was! I think you'll find the same thing for bridal shops, like David's Bridal. I had a wonderful, memorable, lovely experience there. But if you search the forums, you'll see that not everyone had that same experience with DB. So, every situation is different. You gotta just jump in and get it started.

In terms of timing, I would just get started picking what you want and get your guys measured and ordered as early as you can. That way, if something does go wrong, you have time to fix it.
