Michael's diy Easel?

Brittany, on April 18, 2019 at 9:41 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hi everyone! So I bought this easel online from Michael's for my welcome sign display. I was so excited to buy it and get it in the mail that I didn't realize that it was wood (I honestly thought it was gold, lol!). I saw that it got good reviews and the reviews mentioned that they used it for their welcome sign. I am super into arts and crafts and was wondering if I could turn this into a DIY project. I was thinking of spray painting it either gold or just plain black. Keeping in mind that it is wood material, what color would you recommend? Our wedding colors are burgundy + gold. I was also thinking of maybe just returning it and getting a different one...but this might be fun to do!

I think Gold would be a good choice, since that is what you originally wanted.

I think you could manage spray painting it gold. Shouldn't be too big of a deal. Just make sure not to put too much paint on the hinges.

Maybe think about how it's going to look best when your sign is on it. What is your sign made of?

I bought nearly the same one from Amazon. It was a light wood color that I had to put together myself. I ended up staining it a dark wood color. Our theme was not rustic at all, but the dark wood looked super natural and beautiful in contrast to our white welcome sign and greenery. The stain was cheap and easy.

That looks great! Where did you get the acrylic? Did you make the sign?

Yeah I made it myself. It's just a picture frame. I bought a welcome sign poster so I could trace it. I used a white paint pen and traced the welcome sign onto the acrylic to make it perfect. Then I just put it back into the frame without the back on it. It was a fairly simple process that took maybe 20 minutes.
