Micro Wedding Tips

Jenn, on December 12, 2020 at 8:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hi!

My ceremony is booked for 1/8/21. It’ll be 10 people us, our parents, my grandma and our siblings.

A huge part of me feels relieved that I’m no longer planning and worrying about a 200 guest wedding. Also after all our postponements and all the pity (my god all the pity) I’m looking forward to being out of the wedding planning world. But, another part of me feels slightly bummed out.
We were going to get married just the two of us in Colorado which we were really excited about but then our moms were really upset about it so we planned a small ceremony locally.
We’re planning a dinner for after where we can hopefully still do a first dance.
Anyway, I’m looking for advice, tips, thoughts from those of you who had asimilar scenario. How did you keep from the bummed out feeling?
Also - do I spend the extra money on videography now that my wedding is tiny?

I’m in the same boat. I was originally planning a 250 person wedding, and we made the decision to change our plans to a 25-person minimony. Our wedding is next month. I am so relieved and every day that passes reminds me that we made the right decision. I don’t even think about the big wedding anymore. We planned a minimony with some of the traditional wedding elements (dad walking me down the aisle, first dance, cake cutting, etc). When we changed course, my fiancé and I decided that we were not going to cheat ourselves from having the wedding experience we wanted so we are going all out — wedding at a resort, original wedding dress, real wedding cake, photographer and videographer. Don’t cheat yourself simply because you moved to a smaller wedding. You still deserve to have the wedding you want and memories from that day — even if it’s a smaller than the one you originally planned.

We had a 9 person backyard wedding and DoorDashed the food.

We didn't skimp out on the flowers. We got the arch flowers, bouquets, body flowers, done professionally. We DIY'd the chair flowers. I wore my dress and veil. We got a 4 layer, 6 inch cake. The photos turned out fantastic. I was afraid I would feel deprived of a "real" wedding, but that was not the case at all.

I’d keep the videographer! This is still your day, don’t down play it because of the guest list.

I didn't have videography for my minimony but I did have a photographer. We also still did the first dance. I didn't feel bummed at all we had an amazing time and so did our 35guests. We didn't have a videographer because we're still having our big wedding in March 2021 and we have a videographer for that

I'm bummed out bc it wont be just us. My FH caved in and allowed my parents in law and my mom to attend. We are not spending money on videography. To keep from beib3g too sad we decided to not do local and go to one of my favorite places in the country to marry in followed by eating (outdoors) at one of my favorite restaurants.

Jenn- you are so right about the pity!! LOL!! We had a smaller wedding in August and I felt AMAZING afterwards and not bummed at all.
    1. The magical moments happen no matter how many guests you have, 2. We didn’t have the typical “buyers remorse” many couples have financially after a big wedding 3. I wasn’t nervous at all because it was our family, so I was comfortable and myself, which I loved. Keep the videographer, we can’t wait to see our video. One thing we did is our guests left us video messages and we can’t wait to see them ❤️ Hope this helps and CONGRATULATIONS!!
