Micro/intimate wedding change of plans-advice needed

Ashley, on April 21, 2022 at 9:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hello,

My fiancé and I decided early on that we wanted an intimate wedding that included our immediate family only (9 guests). Our family is scattered across the US so either way, someone would need to travel. We came to the idea of hosting a wedding at an Airbnb that would hold all of us and have a the wedding and reception on site, we ended up finding a beautiful home in Northern California that looks like a French Chateau with redwoods on the property right on a beautiful river (that happens to be on the opposite side of the country), we still wanted to have a fun champagne wall, the farm table dinner outside, the cake/dessert table and the dancing under string lights. We booked an awesome photographer and an officiant, but now we are having so much trouble trying to find a caterer and makeup artist/hair stylist, bakery that will cater to our small wedding, most places have a minimum amount of people for services. People giving advice are suggesting that we go to a restaurant after the ceremony and i'm starting to get really stressed out because, the whole point of renting this (expensive) house was that we could all stay there and host the entire wedding there. I'd 100% consider changing the location, however both of our parents have already booked flights and aside from this home I don't have much of a desire to get married in NorCal as I have never been. have absolutely no clue what to do in this case. I'm ready to cancel everything and go to city hall and get married and go to a nice restaurant (which was my original wish). Has anyone else experienced this or have any advise as to what I should do?

Thanks!

It would definitely be difficult to book a wedding vendor for that small of a wedding because they'd have to pass up some 200, 300+ person weddings to do yours, and they usually involve delivery and set up But I dont think you'll have trouble finding vendors if you go outside of the specific "wedding vendor" area and are willing to pick things up yourself. For example, you probably don't have enough girls getting hair/makeup done to need a whole team of stylists, but you can probably find a regular salon to do just your (and maybe a couple others) hair & makeup that morning. Same thing with a bakery- outside of the typical wedding bakeries, people still get cakes, cupcakes, etc for birthdays, showers, etc etc. Lastly catering for the dinner, I would focus on restaurants in the area as opposed to catering companies. Any "family style" restaurants in particular usually serve large dishes that then get shared among the "family." So I'd just find a restaurant that has the type of food you're looking for that is able to do family style portioning. Tell them you have X amount of people and do a takeout/delivery order.

Look for people, restaurants, bakeries who don’t just cater to weddings. That might be helpful like was stated already

There are so many personal chefs who do small dinner parties. Just do a Google search of personal chefs in or near the area you're getting married. They will come to the house, cook, and clean up.

Local grocery stores with bakery departments could make the cake. I know Publix does actual wedding cakes and they can be ordered for a smaller crowd. Otherwise you could have a sheet cake decorated to look wedding-y. For catering, if it's only 9 people you could probably just order dinners from a restaurant and have someone pick them up and plate them so they look fancy. Agree with the above that you could look for a local stylist/ hair salon to do your hair and anyone else who wants their hair done.

Yep! I was going to say as others have said. You could find a local bakery for your cake (that's what I'm doing). A personal chef, or a local restaurant, may be able to cater for you. I have some friends with really extensive allergies, otherwise I would have certainly had food catered from some restaurants. Even just dropped off stations. A local salon for hair and make up would be great. You could have a call with the artists ahead of time, and do a trial in the days leading up to it, assuming you want a trial. I had some moments when looking for vendors that made me think I'd never find ones that were within my budget or would do what I wanted. But take a deep breath and keep looking. You'll find your solution.

Yes! The private chef can work with you to cater a menu - I saw a bunch on Thumbtack
