Microphone for ceremony? Anyone else?

Katy, on May 26, 2012 at 10:16 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

We are going to need a microphone for our ceremony, since it is outdoors and everyone is sitting a little ways away from where we are standing. Rental companies are wanting to charge close to $100-$200 depending on the setup we use. Did anyone else have to use a mic? And if so, did you buy/rent/borrow? And where from? I have considered just buying a wireless mic with a jack and hooking it up to my laptop, but I don't know enough about electronics to know if that would work. Can I plug a mic into my laptop (it does have a input for one) and just use it for sound amplification? Or do I have to use a mic with a recording program of some sort if a mic plugs in? I don't know! I have 3 weeks left and I need to figure this out quick!

We have a DJ and we are using a standing microphone that they provided.

$100 isn't bad. It isn't just a mic, you also need speakers~ The laptop won't be sufficient, the speakers aren't big enough. Are you having a DJ? If your C & R are in the same location then you could look into having your DJ supply the 2nd system.

C & R are 30 minutes away from eachother, we are having a DJ, but he will have all his equipment setup at the reception site before the wedding is even over, so that won't work.

Can you ask your DJ for a mic? I also have a DJ for the reception but they are in two different areas, he is setting up a sound system and mic for the ceremony and will have a different sound system for the reception.

    Ya, our equipment is $150

you would definitely need better speakers then just your lap top. You could look at getting a basic APM (like for musical instruments) with a plug in mic and it might be cheaper.

Our dj provided wireless mics, speakers etc....if your dj is doing the music for your ceremony he should be providing your mic.....my dj had the ceremony, cocktail hour area and reception area all set up with equipment prior to the start of the ceremony, so there was no moving equipment from one area to the next..
