Microphones/setup for outdoor ceremony?

Taylor , on February 14, 2019 at 6:31 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 9
We are getting married outdoors and have about 130 in attendance for the ceremony. Granted, it's a non traditional ceremony so with a dry run of what we had planned it's going to take maybe 30 to 45 min for the ceremony.

To have our DJ for the reception at another venue set up mics is way too expensive for the limited time frame we'll be at the ceremony site.

Do any of you brides have any ideas as to how to go about doing a DIY mic set up? Any input would be highly appreciated Smiley heart

I don't really know if this will work but look into renting a karaoke machine and use just the speaker and the mic?

You can look at purchasing lapel microphones. They are fairly inexpensive, but not sure about the sound quality. Check amazon for good reviews.

Hmmm, most DJs have very small set-ups like the karaoke machine Jessica mentioned that they will set up for $100-$300. Is that what your DJ was quoting you?

You might also ask your officiant, you would be surprised, they might have one just for this reason.

Orrrrr the venue might have a solution.

Last, you could try something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031TK5P2/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

but I still think DJ / venue/ officiant would have better quality equipment.

Following, I have the same question. I've been toying with the idea of getting a speaker and wireless mic from amazon. I've seen some for less than $100 but I'm not sure on how the sound quality would be. Let us know if you figure out a DIY solution!

Buying a microphone is all well and good (and that one probably won't sound great, at that price!), but you need a sound system to run it through - mixing desk, amplifier, speakers. Talk to your DJ who may have a small portable setup you can hire fairly cheaply, and it will sound better than anything you buy for that hire price.
