Middle name to surname change?

Jennifer, on October 10, 2019 at 4:29 PM Posted in Married Life 0 3

My partner and I are planning to marry soon, and we have an unusual plan for a name change. We would like to switch my middle name to both of our surnames, and to switch my surname to my middle name. For example:

Lauren Emily Smith
Bob Andrews Johnson

becomes

Lauren Emily Andrews
Bob Johnson Andrews

Is there any state where we can legally do this? We are willing to travel.

You can change your name in any state, but depending on the state you live in, you may have to petition the court for anything except a last name change.

You will most likely need to petition the court in any state for that.

    Welcome to the community Jennifer!!

When it comes to advising about a legal name change, I always recommend seeking your information from your county clerk. You don't want to run the risk of getting misinformation, no matter how well-meaning everyone is!
