Midnight snacks

Laura2.0, on January 17, 2017 at 3:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

Our ceremony is starting later in the evening at 7pm so we are forgoing cocktail hour and starting dinner right after. Since no cocktail hour our venue offers a midnight snack option instead. I'm not sure what to serve though. We have the option of serving the same snacks that would've been served at cocktail hour cheese crackers, bacon wrapped scallops, mini quiches, mini fried mac n cheese bites and veggie platter. or we can have sweets instead like a s'mores bar, milk and cookies, macaroons and I can't remember what else they offer.

I'm for the regular foods, FH thinks people would be full from dinner so deserts would be better. We need to make a decision before our tasting in a few weeks, so I'd thought I'd ask what would you prefer?

Will there be cake after dinner? I feel like that's enough sweets, but I'm more of a savory person.

Can you mix and match from the two? I want fried mac and cheese AND s'mores bar

Are you already doing wedding cake or desserts immediately after dinner? If so, I'd opt to use the midnight snack time as a fun way to incorporate a personal element – maybe you or your FH's favorite snack foods. FH and I were toying around with soft pretzels and a dip bar because we LOVE soft pretzels. I also think this is an opportunity to be less formal with what you're serving.

If you have a partying crowd, I'd skip doing only sweets. I've been to a lot of weddings where people are hungry for some carby, cheesy goodness to soak up the booze.

Yes we will be serving cake after dinner. Unfortunately we can't mix and match, unless we pay for both and that's not in the budget. Smiley sad

Grown ups appreciate tasty food... not so much thesweets. kiddos prefer sweets over savory. Think about your guest list and the diets ( how your buddies eat, what they eat after a night on the town, and how they talk about food generally etc... )of your friends on attendance before making your decision. More importantly, how do you feel about food? Drunk in the middle of the night are you more likely going to turn to Taco Bell (savory) or to Dairy Queen (sweet)? Savory? Go with the bacon wrapped scallops. Sweet? Go with the marshmallowsSmiley smile

Yes I am leaning more towards savory. It makes more sense in our party crowd. They love to drink and I'm sure by midnight we'll have some nice drunk folks who'll appreciate something greasy. Thanks WW peeps

We're doing late night pizza! When I used to cater that was a common (or chicken wings, cheese and crackers... think bar/snack food). I tend to like savory options better myself but maybe you can do some of each? 2 appetizer foods and 2 dessert options? Good luck!

I'd lean towards savory since you're already doing a cake for dessert. Sounds amazing!

Agree w/ PPs I think the savory option sounds better and will be a better crowd pleaser.

I would go for savory too! Fried Mac n' Cheese bites sound so good!

We are doing cheese coneys (we live in Cincinnati - so "Cincinnati-style chili") for a snack an hour before our reception ends!

We thought about doing late night snacks but our caterer actually talked us out of it. He said in the past they haven't been worth it as not many people ate them.

But I would go with savory.

Mini burgers, chicken strips, French fries, pulled pork sliders, quesadillas.. im just naming drunk food. After dinner and dancing some might be tipsy abd enjoy your typical drunk/sober up food

I would definitely want a bit of both! A smores bar option in combination with some savory finger foods would be awesome late at night.

And I don't think people would be full if it is a late night snack. You won't be serving it right after dinner, more towards the end of the night.
