So due to my FH needing emergency surgery a few weeks ago our original honeymoon plan of spending a week in New Orleans is a no go. We've looked at our finances now that Christmas is over and we just can't do it.

I don't think a honeymoon registry is appropriate so we are just going to have an adventure closer to home. We've got time to figure it out but I thought I'd ask you lovely lads and ladies for ideas!

Our wedding is in Grand Rapids, MI (which is where we live). I'm from Northern Michigan--Cadillac/Traverse City area and FH is from Detroit so we'd like to maybe get out of Michigan if we could--but if there is an adventure to be had we're up for anything!

Anyone have any ideas for honeymoons in the Midwestern area?

@Tina - Neither one of us has ever been (besides me driving past it I think to get to Stratford). What kind of stuff is there to do?

@SoonToBeMrsS - That is so pretty! Is it not very popular in October? It's so beautiful I feel like it would be year round!

It's super popular but if you do a Google search you'll be able to find a calender of the dates available. You might get lucky and be able to spend a few days there.

Door County area, we live in Wisconsin and couldn't afford to go anywhere big so we went to Door County. Actually stayed there since our west was up there. Lots to do and you don't have to spend a lot!

The Sunday following your wedding is the marathon so if you decide to come here, come late in the day or on Monday. If you do come here (I love it!), park and take public transit or walk.

This is going to sound crazy, but look up Valentine Nebraska. There's an absolutely beautiful river there, and there are approximately 200 waterfalls along the river. We have kayaked and tubes the river, and it was great both times. Had I not seen it for myself, I would never have believed that some of the most beautiful waterfalls I've seen in the states were in Nebraska! Also, the river is very shallow- you can stand up at any point and get off the river to enjoy the scenery. Not sure if you're into that type of thing or not, but it's inexpensive and unforgettable!
