Might be a little TMI, but anyone use the Softcup? Pros and Cons?

Stephanie, on August 17, 2012 at 11:45 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 17

Most of you know we will be in HI for two weeks for our wedding and HM. Well with all the wedding and work stress this summer my periods are all messed up and right now it looks like I will be on it for at least part of our trip. When I first started on WW there was an MD student who swore by the Softcup, but I can't find any other thoughts mentioned from other brides and can't find her post. I would like to hear from anyone that uses it or has used it and what their thoughts are. I can't use BC to regulate my periods so that is out. We tried 5 different avenues when we first met and he finally got snipped. We do usually have sex after my first day of my cycle, if I am up to it, so I want to know if that really works on with these, do the guys really not feel it? Can you really leave them in 12 hours with no leaking? Be active, hike, swim etc... Sorry for the TMI but I really need some advice on these.

At my college campus I was actually an educator about lifestyle choices, including discussing safe sex options. Last year I taught people a lot about the softcup. A lot of people said that it worked great, their only complaint was that it was a little noisy, haha. So if you two are up to that, go for it! =]

I never heard of keeping it in while you.. you know Smiley winking but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to read some reviews on amazon or something!

As for no leaking, I have heard they are GREAT for that. I'm pregnant now so it will be a while before I try them out.. haha.. but.. I've heard good things as well..

I would try them out before, my mother tried them and hated them, she said she still leaked and it was uncomfortable.

My friends who are backpackers swear by that thing but I've never heard of anyone keeping it in there during the coitus. Smiley smile

IDK, I had the NuvaRing for a couple of months and H could feel it during sex and it bugged both of us. Everyone is different down there I'm sure, but I would take out for sexytimes. And just try it out at home on your next period, and maybe bring some tampons/whatever you normally use as a backup. It's really annoying to spend an hour of your precious HM time going to the pharmacy for tampons (we had to b/c the cleaning lady in one of our hotel rooms threw mine away, grrrr.)

@Kris, Yeah I always bring a box and would be upset if they were thrown away.

@Heather, it is an alternative to tampons and pads. They are small cups that fit, suction over, your cervix and collect the period discharge. They are supposed to be leak free for up to 12 hours and you can have intercourse with them in. I have also researched that most women can tell when it starts to get full because they get uncomfortable.

I would just love to have an longer term alternative while hiking and swimming in areas where there may not be a restroom.

SoftCup isn't birth control, it's used instead of tampons or pads.

I used it for several years, and loved it! I had no issues using it during sex... In fact, it was often the only way my former partner would be intimate with me during my cycle (which is when I wanted to attack him the most).

It is NOT effective as birth control.

    Fire and ice condoms???!? Yikes!

I've never wanted to try those "sensation" gels or condoms, they scare me. I imagine feeling like my lady parts are covered in BenGay and it freaks me out. lol.

Yeah, not into the "fire and ice" either.

@SamerSue, I had never been interested in sex that during that time but he really doesn't mind the mess as long as I am into it. Never the first day though, too crampy.

@heather, When I first met him he said he would "NEVER" go under the "knife" for a woman. Ok after seeing everything I went through with BC he actually came home one day with an appt. to see his urologist. A month later it was done. Sooooo nice not to worry about it anymore. But boy did I have to baby him that weekend. lol He still tells everyone how bad it was.

I tried them once, and it was horrible. It leaked, BAD, and was messy to put in and take out (my periods were heavy at the time as no BC), so I stuck with tampons. This was, mind you, like 10 years ago, so maybe they have improved.
