Milestone For The 2nd Time

Jasmine, on January 23, 2020 at 5:48 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

With having to cancel our California wedding, we've been looking into small/elopement ceremony to keep things as simple as possible. I'm happy to say that we just booked Mansion 54 for our venue and I couldn't be more excited!!

Now with a little over a year to go, I'm still anxious to figure out what we will do afterwards. I'm currently looking into a couple venues to see if we could do a bigger reception and if not, then I guess we'll just stick with who we have at the ceremony and do a late lunch/early dinner somewhere.

Either way, what do you all think would be a good distance (time wise) from the ceremony spot to the dinner/reception location?

I would say it would depend on how far your guests are used to traveling for stuff. I grew up in VT where EVERYTHING is 30 minutes away, so driving that long is fine for me. But here in Denver, if you tell someone they have to drive 30 minutes they act like you just told them their dog died. So think about your guests and what they’re accustomed to.

Congrats! That is awesome. Does this place have a backyard where you can eat there and cater out?

OMG! That makes sense though. I didn't even think about it that way.

They have a yard but unfortunately it's either their elopement package or a full wedding which we refuse to do because we're not paying 10k for anything less than 100 guests

Oh that is lame. Well the place I am checking out this Sunday I dunno if we will have time to dine there as we only get use for 3 hours so may just take them to a restaurant but it will be a Sunday. Look up community centers with nice dining venues or check event halls in your area.

I actually got in touch with an banquet hall that's not too far but I just came across another space that I think would be pretty cool to have it and we have a tour on Monday. It's about 10 mins away though and although I don't think it's far, I'm not sure if anyone else would think so.

We live in Georgia, where everything is 30 to 45 minutes away (we do not stay in the city). When my brother got married in 2015 the distance between the church and the reception was about 30 minutes and everyone was fine. I think as long as your guest know that they are being fed when they arrive to the reception site, they will be fine.

Congrats. I am so happy everything is falling into place four you two.

As far as the distance, I say no more than 10-20 min drive. But I don't know the area. Place in California are so much farther from one another than they are in Texas,

Oh wow! I can understand that. Our ceremony location is about 20-30 mins away from our house but we're not trying to look anything further than 15 mins at most (since we'll already be in the city for the ceremony).

True. Our new venue is here in Vegas now and it's downtown so there's plenty of close by things. Just not all of them we care for. We were planning on no more than 15 mins tops.

It just has to be a place we both like. If nothing else, we'll look into the 20 min range and see if we like anything else.

    Thanks

So far so good. I just really don't want a repeat and have to cancel again. That was extremely painful and depressing.

Thank you. Very very very slowly I'm trying to get over it. It was my dream wedding so it's really hard but at least we were able to find an alternative we both like so trying to stay positive.
