Military Couples — Insurance

My FH is in the Air Force. Our wedding is planned for September 2019. We have booked our venue and a few vendors. My question is what type of insurance did you get in case of deployment and had to reschedule the wedding? There has been more talk about this, so we want to get ahead and make sure we are prepared!
Our venue said we would be able to reschedule no problem but I want something more set in stone, especially with so many outside vendors!

I'm not too sure. I feel like I should, as an AF brat and a former insurance agent, but I've never needed or written a policy like that. I'd call a local agent. I imagine it wouldn't be overly expensive.

My wedding insurance through WedSure covers deployment. However, my FH is in the reserves so we are covered if he gets deployed regardless. For active, my policy states that leave must be approved for the wedding and then retracted. They do this so people are doing their due diligence in getting the request in time for leave.

We didn’t have insurance for this (I didn’t even know it was an option! That would have reduced so much stress!), but I made sure when we booked all of our vendors that we could reschedule without penalty in the event that the Navy decided to keep DH longer at training or sent him somewhere else unexpectedly. This was in writing, and if a vendor was unable to give us this guarantee, I went a different route.

My FH and I aren't getting insurance, and instead are having our vendors include in their contracts that in the event of government orders, we would be able to reschedule our wedding services with them at no penalty. It helps that we are in San Diego, which is a huge military area so it's a common thing here and most of the vendors already include a statement of that nature. If a vendor cannot include in writing that we can change our date and keep the services in the signed contract, we are having them write us an additional statement and keeping that in our records. Make sure to always look at the contract that you and your fiance sign beforehand because that will be the agreement that vendors must abide by.
