Military guests/participants/spouses

Ashleigh, on May 24, 2016 at 9:38 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 25

I'm just curious who else has any one actively in the military coming to or being a part of their wedding. My FH's older bro will be a groomsman and is in the air force as a load master (works with planes a lot) and my cousin's husband is a Marine and has been in for like 20 some odd years and I don't know what he does because unfortunately I have never been able to meet him. I'm excited to see them in their dress blues..... uniforms (I know FBIL will be wearing "dress blues" but I'm not sure if that's what it's called in the Marines?) Just wanted to start a convo I haven't yet seen on here since joining.

My husband is a Marine vet, currently Air Force. He actually doesn't wear his uniforms to weddings. Not all do since there's requirements on shaving, length of hair, etc. He used to wear them when he was younger but there were a couple times he felt it called too much attention to himself so he stopped for that reason also.

My FSILs husband is active in the Marines. He doesn't wear his uniform when he's attending weddings. I've only seen him in it for his own wedding and the Marine Corps Ball and when he attended the services of a fallen brother.

He has requested it off and yeah he'll be gone for months at a time so says my FSIL. And he asked if I wanted him wearing dress blues or a groomsman suit and FH said dress blues bc we think he looks ssoooo good in them! My cousin was in the army for about 12 or so years but is out and having her second child and I remember her wearing her uniform to special occasions and man!!! Did she look good!! I always wanted to be her when I saw her all dressed up!!

FH is wearing his dress blues to our wedding (he's active duty army). He doesn't usually wear his uniform when he attends weddings though.

FH is in the navy but wants to wear a regular suit! I've seen grooms wear uniforms to the ceremony and change for reception into a suit.

My FH is a vet from navy but is in reserves, he's debating on dress blues. He wants to but then he thinks it's a hassle to change for reception. And he said he's definitely not wearing to the reception because he doesn't need pictures of him on social media in his dress blues mixing with alcohol. That's a no go.

Brittany C I never thought about that issue. My best friends boyfriend is in the reserves and I'm not sure if he'll be wearing his uniform but boy does that kid know how to get himself in trouble when alcohol is involved! Good thing my FBIL and cousins husband are very well behaved men and I don't believe my cousin's husband even drinks!

I never thought about it til he brought it up either!

If they do to the ceremony I would just ask them how they feel about changing for reception. They shouldn't be technically wearing it out and about for reasons of a wedding but if he looks dashing then I don't think the ceremony/pictures would be a bad idea!

My FH is Coast Guard, 1 GM is Air Force, another Navy, (we also have 1 retired Army and 2 retired Coast Guard as GM's). Among the guests we have about 15% active duty on the list.

Our peeps won't be in their respective dress uniforms....I mean, technically it would have been ok if we got married on base like we thought about (for like a millisecond), but decided we didn't want to go through mandatory counseling, and it just wasn't the venue we ended up wanting for our wedding.

We are also having alcohol at our wedding, most guests would categorize themselves as professional drinkers, and as some have already mentioned, the boys wouldn't be able to drink if they wore those...so yeah, lol, normal clothes and rented GM suits Smiley smile

FBIL not attending was not an option for us either. FH demanded we schedule the wedding around their schedule so that's what we've done. FH is a twin and their brother in the air force wasn't able to make it to his twins wedding last minute and it broke them since they don't get to see him much at all. He was in Germany for ever so now that he's state side they're trying to make up for lost time

My FH is an Air Force veteran and he never wears his blues to weddings and we aren't planning on him wearing them to ours either. He says it makes him feel like he's in a penguin suit haha. 2 people in our bridal party are in the military and I know they aren't planning on wearing theirs either.

My sister's husband is a Major in the Air Force and my FSIL's husband is a Marine! I don't think they will wear their uniforms but my sisters husband keeps teasing saying he wants to wear his so the other one will have to keep calling him sir all night. But he's just being ridiculous... I'm excited that they were both able to come and share our day together with us.

Rebecca F that's hilarious! I can see my FBIL doing that to some of my friends who are in the military and attending our wedding but most likely will not wear their uniforms

FH is retired AF. He does not want to wear his dress blues because that would require him shaving. He grew a beard when he retired. I don't want him to shave either. However, we are having the seamstress doing my alterations cut a piece from them to sew into the hem of my dress for my something blue.

FH is active duty Marine. He will be wearing his dress blues and so will two of his groomsmen. He doesn't typically wear a uniform unless he has to. He is going to be a groomsmen in a wedding and she wants him in a tux.

I'm currently in the Air Force and stationed in Guam. I'm ammo and we actually deal with load masters alot. Personally, I think it's attention seeking when people other than the groom and MAYBE in the bridal party wear their uniforms. I try to not be in uniform whenever possible because we already wear them most of the time.

I don't know about my cousin's husband but my FBIL wears it to certain special occasions just out of respect for his job and his mom and grandma are like.... his life and he likes dressing in uniform because they like seeing him in uniform. I think it looks nice.

My fiancé is an active duty marine and has already put in for leave in August (we're getting married 8/21/16). He plans on wearing his dress blues (which I love). I'm going to order a custom cake topper that has him as a marine and me as a nurse. We won't be doing the sword ceremony thing since that means we'd have to invite several marines that we don't know that well. I'm ok with that though.

Husband is Navy and I LOVE that he wore dress blues. He originally wanted a suit, but changed his mind a month before. The pics turned out super cute with the uniform. The best man also wore his blues as well.

My FH is a marine veteran and he isn't wearing his dress blues, same with my dad. But my two brothers who are active marines are ushers and will be wearing their blues. I have never been to a wedding where they just wore their uniforms just because so I wouldn't get your hopes up that they will
