Military Wedding

Isabel, on December 8, 2021 at 11:36 AM Posted in Planning 1 6
Hey, everybody! My fiancé just got sworn into the Navy and I want to incorporate somethings military into our wedding in early January. Funny enough, we picked our wedding colors (before he even thought about going into the military) in navy blue, teal, and sage green. So, what are some military wedding ideas we can incorporate into the ceremony or reception??

Have you spoken to your fiancé about this idea? I ask because my fiancé is retired military and also has lots of friends either currently or formerly serving, and none of them wanted anything military related in their weddings. Their service is a job, and they wanted to stress that their weddings were about them and their relationships, and had nothing to do with their jobs.

I definitely see your point and it makes a lot of sense. I wasn't planning to go full nine yards because he's only been sworn in. I also haven't talked to him because I wanted it to be a surprise, but you make a good point that it's about the relationship+us and not the jobs that we have/will have.

I think it’s super sweet you wanted to surprise him with something that is all about him. I would definitely get his opinion about incorporating anything navy into the wedding first though. I know if my fiancé surprised me by incorporating aspects of my job into our wedding, I would be super bummed out because it would take me out of the moment and make me think of work. If he doesn’t want to incorporate military aspects into the wedding, you could always surprise him with something else that he really enjoys! For example, does he love sports? You could get him a grooms cake of his favorite sports team, or get his team’s jerseys with “Bride” and “Groom” on the back to wear for your entrance into your reception. Or if he is a gamer, you could get him a grooms cake of his favorite game. If he is into super heroes, you could get him superhero socks to wear or superhero T-shirts for the groomsmen to wear for their getting ready pictures.

I have to agree with Cece on this.

My FH is military but has the type of job he cannot talk about, therefore does not like being in the spotlight about it. About 40% of our wedding is current or ex military- we may or may not be doing a shot with them but that's about it.

Maybe do something military more private for him as a surprise? Like give him a gift relating to or something like that?

I agree with Cece - look at more of his other interests and surprise him with something from those Smiley smile.
