Mini-moon ideas?

Amy, on April 25, 2018 at 7:52 PM Posted in California Planning 0 3

Hi all! My FH and I are planning a more extravagant trip for our 1 year anniversary, but going to be taking somewhat of a mini-moon right after the wedding. Would love to have any ideas fellow CA folks might have! We are spending our wedding night (a Saturday) in Monterey and we are still taking that following week off so we do have some time. We are big Disneyland people, it's a special place for us, so we've talked about including a day there (plus I could walk around in those veiled Minnie ears Smiley love !) However, I also kind of feel like maybe we should go somewhere new for this occasion. We are open to either driving or flying, and I suppose don't strictly need to stay in CA, but since we are toying with doing Disney for a day it would make sense depending if we opt for that, plus part of what constitutes this as a mini-moon in our eyes is trying to not spend too much on the flights alone.

TL;DR = any favorite local-ish vacation spots you would recommend? TIA! Smiley laugh

How about a road trip? If you're in Monterey, I would suggest north to San Francisco, lots to see and do there and then further north to Napa or Sonoma for wine country. Or head south to Big Sur (thats where we're getting married)! You could hit Big Sur, Santa Barbara, LA, Anaheim (for Disneyland), San Diego and then head back north to Monterey! At any rate, there are plenty of beautiful places in California!

I live in the Paso Robles/San Luis Obispo area and our county is becoming a HUGE destination area. Wine tasting, gourmet food, breweries, distilleries, beautiful beaches, backroad drives... it really is paradise. We love living here and it is so relaxing and there is always something to do.

We are doing our minimoon at Sycamore Hot Springs in Avila Beach (about 30 minutes from us) for 2 days after the wedding. We are doing our full honeymoon near our 1 year anniversary too! We are doing a week in New Orleans.

We did the same thing: mini-moon after wedding and a bigger honeymoon a year later. Whatever you decide, consider a relaxing pace (stay a few nights in one or two hotels not a lot of hotel hopping). Many couples are very exhausted after the wedding. Bask in the glow and don't run yourself ragged before you have to go back to work. I suggest either N Ca or S Ca from Monterey...

    N. CA: Napa Valley for food, wine, spas, strolls in small towns. Add SF only if you want a few days of adventure (museums, attractions) and busy city life. You can fly out from there.

S CA: A few nights in Santa Barbara for food, wine tasting, spas, relaxing restaurants then stay at a Disney hotel for a few days to enjoy the parks.
