MiniMoon in Charlottesville, VA -- Need Suggestions!

Maggie, on March 15, 2016 at 12:45 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 7

My fiance and I are going on a short mini-moon directly following the wedding, and go on a bigger adventure when we have the money and time to plan it. Since we live (and are getting married) in the DC area, we thought Charlottesville would be a nice, relaxing place to spend a couple days. We love touring wineries, and have heard good things about the wineries in that region. Does anyone have suggestions of where to stay that would be relaxing, romantic, and semi-close to some wineries? I've noticed there are lot of B&Bs but I worry about the lack of privacy (I don't really want to dine with other guests), and they don't have as many amenities as bigger hotels (pools, etc.). Thanks!

Check out the Inn at Crossroads. It's a little B & B that sits at the foot of Pippin Hill Winery. My sister got married at the winery and a few guests stayed at this B & B and really enjoyed it. Plus, you don't have to worry after you've had too much wine. It's just a short walk down the hill, not to mention it's absolutely stunning there!

It is about an hour from Cville but https://www.theinnatlittlewashington.com/ is supposed to be awesome. Their restaurant is really highly rated. It's near lots of wineries - Barboursville, Gray Ghost, etc. Might be worth taking a look at!

Charlottesville is awesome, though. I'd maybe look for something near downtown mall so you can walk to bars and stuff in the evenings. There are wine tours in the area as well that provide transportation so you might look into one of those!

Lots of B&Bs have pools but I haven't been to any in Charlottesville to recommend one. My husband doesn't like them, though, he doesn't like eating breakfast with other people. We've only been to one and that's how they did it but many aren't like that! But I prefer hotels as well.

    Charlottesville resident here! Smiley smile

I don't know anything about the Inn near Pippin Hill Winery but I will say that that should be a must-go for you guys. FH and I LOVE that one. King Family is also great as well as Veritas.

We do have a lot of great B&B's here but if that's not what you're into (I can relate with the privacy thing sometimes), then there's plenty of hotels. Not sure how much you'll find close to the wineries though since many of them are kind of out in the sticks. I might recommend staying close to downtown, so you can also walk around the pedestrian mall, shop, eat and people watch. The Omni is right on the downtown mall but it's pricey. There's a Hampton Inn up on Rt 29 right in town and Homewood Suites that rates well.

ETA: Veritas and King Family are out west of town, so if you wanted to stay towards that side of town, the Boars Head Inn resort is really nice -- we're getting married there. They can be pricey too though. Smiley winking

Boar's Head Inn is super nice - full-service hotel with pools, tennis, restaurants and, I believe, a spa. But it's right next to Cville, so I am not sure if you wanted something more remote/right up in the Vineyards. Still super gorgeous, full service, and close to the mountains, etc.

ETA: may want to check an ensure you are not going during UVA Reuinions. It's usually in June, but you may miss it.

Cville bride, whoop whoop! I'd suggest considering being close to Monticello, there's a beautiful natural trail nearby Saunders Mtn trail (if you're into hiking or walks). There's a place that is close to Monticello and to the Trump Winery (if you so choose), it's called the Acardy Vineyard Bed & Breakfast that's two in one (a winery and B&B). Arcady Vineyard Bed and Breakfast

    Here's the address and link.

I love this minimoon idea! I live in and am getting married in DC too. Where did you get married? At any rate, I think we're going to try and do a big Mediterranean next year because we have a friend who is FSO and is being stationed in Athens for 3 yrs. We can't afford to do two big vacations and a wedding, so we're trying to figure out a good affordable honeymoon idea.
