Mismatched bridesmaid dresses — different colors/styles

Catherine, on October 5, 2021 at 4:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Hello! I’ve seen a ton of posts about bridesmaids in the same color but different styles (dresses from Azazie, Brody Grey, DB, etc), but I’m curious if anyone has successfully had a big bridal party with multiple colors and styles. Here are my inspo pics:

I have 1 MOH and 7 bridesmaids. Should I assign maybe 2 girls per each color or will it look too messy if all get different colors? Is anyone else planning to do this for their wedding? Any advice?
Thanks!! 😊

I love this style of wedding party, but if you're gonna do mismatched colors, people recommend having some other element that's the same so there is cohesion across all of them. For example you could have all dresses be the same length, or just have everyone get the same style. But since you have 7, I like the idea of 3 different colors and then your MOH can have the last color to herself.

I think I agree with Jasmine that there needs to be something that makes them cohesive if not colour - so length, fabric type (velvet, satin, chiffon, sequins or whatever), neckline, etc.

That said I have seen a few weddings online in my travels where the bride was just like... "pick a pastel dress" or "Pick a floral dress" or whatever since the bridesmaids were all in different countries and they couldn't coordinate at all, and the ones I saw looked really nice, so maybe there doesn't need to be as much cohesion as I was thinking.

Those colors sound like they're from David's Bridal. The dresses themselves are not ombre, she's just doing multiple shades of purple so they will create an ombré look when everyone is standing together.

One of my friends had a mismatched wedding party! All the dresses were roughly the same length but not exactly, and I think they were actually all floral patterned and shades of blue. It looked fantastic. The MOH had a green dress, which looked a bit odd in some lighting, but I'm sure there's ways around that. But basically it looked like she gave the maids the palette and said "Go pick something you're comfortable in!"

I had 7 in my party. I gave them a list of colors and let them decide amongst themselves. I was happy with how they turned out.

That’s awesome that it worked out! Good idea to assign a color to each person — thanks for the advice!
