Missing Photos

Hi! Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I need some advice and I'll try to keep this short so feel free to ask for more details if necessary! My ceremony was June 29, 2021 and I hired a photographer in August 2020 and paid in full by December 2020. Because it was my first time hiring a photographer for anything, I didn't think to make sure turnaround time was included in my contract--my fault completely. However, after reaching out in July to ask how long pics would take and again in August, my photographer told me she'd have them to me within a week or 2 from the dates I asked. Included in my package were a digital gallery and a custom USB with all the photos to be mailed to me. After being lied 2 a couple times about turnaround time and sending a lengthy message, she finally said her turnaround time is 8-12 weeks, which just passed Tuesday. So I finally got my USB in the mail and there are very important pictures missing. We had a small ceremony so we had posed shots with different guests and NONE of those are on the USB or in the digital portal. Is it normal for a photographer to completely leave out shots? We don't have the ones with just our parents, friends, etc. Because she's lied so many times idk what to do next. Should I just ask for a partial refund? I'm so angry because the guests were a major part of this and we didn't just want pics of us.

Have you contacted her and asked about the photos? That's the first thing that I would do. Most photographers keep their pictures for a certain amount of time, so she may still have them

I'm just so frustrated that I've had to hassle her to get the photos in the first place and she sent only half the shots. Like why do I need to keep reaching out to you to do what you promised?! She's having family problems right now so I'm trying to be considerate of that, but I also want to say just give me my photos and we never have to speak again. If the photos are unedited though, I think I deserve some sort of refund because I paid for edited photos. I'm just so frustrated. Thanks for y'all's advice!

I completely understand. my photographer was my friend and i had to do the same! it's kinda like ... YOU hold my memories, so the least thing you could do is your job. and in the end she totally lost some of my photos! i would ask her to give you all the photos, raw and edited ones and ask that she do it within 1-2 weeks. that was what she was paid to do and you shouldn't have to keep waiting.

Yes exactly! I have a strong feeling that she lost those other photos, like in your situation. I just want her to be honest about it and just give me a partial refund if that's the case. I mean I'd prefer the photos rather than a refund because the memories are important, but if she doesn't have them, I'd like to not have paid for what I didn't receive. Fingers crossed that she complies one way or another.
