Mix-matched vintage plates

Mim, on February 11, 2018 at 7:12 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

I am debating using mismatched vintage plates for the tables. If I do, do you think colored flowers are too much?

Here are some examples of the plates our venue has. We'll use 2 layers of vintage plates and some sort of charger to separate from the ivory linen.

For flowers I'm thinking ivory, blush, dusty pink, muted plum, and burgundy. Some ideas:

The color of the flowers I think fits our vintage barn feel, but I'm worried that it may be clashing with the flowers. Should I just stick with white flowers then or does it become to bland with the ivory linens?

I would use the flowers in the bouquet picture and stick with standard plates. People will only see the plates for a few minutes then they eat and they’re cleared away. You’ll get more color from the flowers for longer than the plates.

I think those photos are way too busy personally. I think if your dish at the bottom has color and the top one is white it won't look as busy and the flowers should have more green and succulent with softer flower shades.

I love the flowers and colorful plates. It's a style that works because it's a little grand and fun. But..it only works if you stick with the same genre of dishes..for example, all floral dishes.

Will you be using all different plates or each person will have the same set of mixed plates?

I personally love this style of mismatched dishes and florals so my opinion is biased.

I would just make sure that there is at least a common theme. Like all the plates have a floral theme or all of the plates have pink flowers on them. You know, a common thread to tie it all together.

Ideally we will have mismatched plates with a similar color scheme but it depends on whether it’s feasible. Our venue has a set of 130 and we’ll need 60-70.

I really like the look too - I'm just worried the flowers may make it overwhelming. Hopefully we can stay in the pink, burgundy and neutral range and then the flowers will match. There's not many examples on Pinterest which is why I'm struggling.. many are on wood tables and we would rather use the tables that come with our venue rather than rent new ones.

Thank you I do too! I think the plate is too small which but once we put the dinner plate under it should look better.
