Mix Tape Wedding Favors?

Jessica, on October 3, 2017 at 12:19 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 24

I found the idea to make a wedding mix CD as a favor on pinterest, and it really stood out to me. My fiance and I love a wide variety of music, and are both at least somewhat musically inclined. Many of our guests are, too, since I am a staff member for a local high school marching band. I thought this seemed like a fun project, and would give our guests a somewhat unexpected favor.

But I am wondering what our guests will think. If you went to a wedding and were given a mix tape, would you listen to it? Would you keep it? Would you even take it in the first place?

No, do people even use CDs anymore? Plus I doubt you have the same musical tastes as most of your guests.

Most cars don't have cd players anymore. IMO, doing this is kinda pointless as its obsolete for most people.

When I met with our DJ, he said do NOT plan the music to a T. DJ's know what songs to play to get people dancing. If you do a wedding mix tape, you will need to choose every song.

I do think its a cute idea though. Maybe just the processional?

I'm really into music so I'd listen to it once, probably the next day. I wouldnt keep it around forever though. Now that Spotify and other streaming services are the norm, these type of favors are not as popular. Edible favors, photo booths, and extra food stands like doughnuts or cotton candy are the way to go if you have the extra budget.

@Miranda wut... OP isn't planning on doing the music for her wedding. She wants to make a mix tape as a favor. Reading comprehension is important.

I try not to pirate music because I think supporting my favorite artists is important. I probably wouldn't take one.

No. My computer doesn't even have a CD drive, so I wouldn't be able to listen even if I wanted to.

H really wanted to do this for our wedding. Thankfully, I was able to talk him out of it. We did sugar cookie favors instead, and had only one bag leftover.

Honestly, I would not take a mix tape home.

That's what I was afraid of lol. Although most people I know do still have CD players in their cars. I don't want to go to all that work, just to have people throw them away.

What about a digital playlist? Or should I just scrap the idea?

I think it is honestly up to if you think your guests would appreciate it. . . Or have a way to play it. Most people have access to a laptop or computer that will be able to play it. As a music lover I think it's a cute idea. Maybe have a cheap back up or secondary favor in case it doesn't go the way you planned with guests?

I went to a wedding where the couple provided a playlist to download and listen to on the way to the wedding--it was on their wedding website. it was cute, though a bit unnecessary. i definitely agree with PPs that physical CDs are a major waste--many people won't have anywhere to play them anymore. but the playlist idea is sweet.

    @LB Yikes.

My assumption based on the sign that says our wedding has a soundtrack. Key word wedding & soundtrack. I would only assume that it means it is the music played at the wedding being offered as a favor, henceforth it would be all planned.

My B. I'll try to comprehend better next time.

The CD player in my 9 year old car doesn't work that well anymore and my H's car doesn't have a CD player. I think they're outdated at this point.

I listen to Pandora or SiriusXM, or my iTunes. I haven’t played a cd in about two years.

I think it is cute idea especially based on what you both love. I'll admit I'll probably listen to the cd only once but will be gushing about how cute that was years later
