Mixing bridesmaids dresses

Whitney, on November 21, 2021 at 7:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hi there! I was really interested in mixing bridesmaids dresses -- I think it looks so fashionable. The thing is, it can really look like a mess if you don't do it right. Any suggestions on how to approach? I was hoping to use David's Bridal since it's so cheap.

If you want cheap costs, look at Azazie. Much cheaper, better quality, and more options. The key to it being cohesive is making sure that at least some aspect is unifying, like color or fabric. For instance, my SIL had all of us wear a sky blue knee length dresss, but thr rest was up to us. We all had slightly varying shades and styles and it came out great. Plus we were all comfortable because they were dresses we wanted to wear.

I've seen Azazie, but I wish I could see the dresses in person before I direct my bridesmaids that way.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

I did mixed dresses and they actually were also all from different stores! I knew the color palate I wanted, I “assigned” a color to each girl (worked out that they each wanted that specific color too so they were happy with their assignment). Then I asked them to find their own dress that they loved, with the only stipulation that it be long and that my two BMs be in silk/pseudo-silk fabric. That way it was more cohesive, and my MOH could be in a textured/patterned dress to be a little different. I loved how it turned out!

I think as long as they are all in the same color pallete (for instance variations of blues) they’ll look fine together! My friend did this for her wedding and it turned out really wellMixing bridesmaids dresses 2

These are DB dresses! Gave my MOHs the Marigold and my BMs the Sedona! It worked out super well for an early fall wedding 💛 Same dress material but different styles.

The easiest thing would probably be to go to DB, and hold some dresses up together!

I ordered swatches from Azazie, Kennedy Blue, Revelry, Bridy Grey, and David's Bridal. I decided that I would have my girls all wear Dusty Blue (called French Blue at Revelry) and favorited some styles from each shop that fit the same vibe. Ultimately each bridesmaid will have final say over price, fabric, and style of her dress but I'll know it's in a color that looks good with the others and it's in a style that I like!

I did this with Azazie and it worked great! I wanted a blue ombre effect, so I chose a few specific shades, assigned them to each bridesmaid, and let them choose whatever dress in their assigned shade that fit my specifications (which was only that the dress was long).

I used Azazie, too. I chose the color, and they chose their own dresses. One bridesmaid doesn't wear dresses, so I sent her an Azazie scarf and she matched the color with a lace blouse and flowy dress pants.

They looked really good. I also happen to like the look of having bridemaids wear coordinating colors of a shade, but it's hard to do with some colors. Blue is safe, or soft shades of pink. If you want something more specific, it will be harder to pick outfits that coordinate.

btw, Azazie worked out really well for us. I'm an older bride, and half of my bridesmaids were over 40. Because Azazie has a big Mother of the Bride line in addition to traditional bridesmaids dresses, it was easy to find styles that flattered everyone.

Beautiful! I think blue might be among the most versatile colors to work with.

I let mine choose their own dress and style and as long as it was light pink in that realm of palette it was fine with me. i was definitely nervous because it could really clash but in the end it actually came out looking really coherent even though they were all different shades and styles

We just went with an art deco theme which meant focusing on accessories, hair and makeup instead of the type of dress.
