Mixing metals for rings

JustBre, on August 30, 2016 at 2:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

I was just wondering if any one is mixing metals with their e-ring and weddng ring/band.

I found a ring i LOVE on etsy for my wedding band...my ering is sterling silver. I have the option of rose gold or white gold (14K) for the band...will either of those look funky next to my ering? I will wear them both together, but I have a feeling I will wear the band alone often since I have a solitare that sits up rather high and gets in the way sometimes Smiley smile

My e ring is white gold, and I'm getting a tri color ring. I love the look of mixed metals!

ETA: I will probably not wear my e ring much after the wedding, because it catches on so many things!

My e-ring is platinum and my wedding band will be white gold. The cost difference to order in platinum was almost double

The mixed colors look great, but the main difference is how the metal will wear if you don't have them soldered together. They will wear differently; the softer metal will wear down over time.

However, if you DO get them soldered together, and need them redipped at some point, I have no idea if they can be dipped in different colors. I would sincerely doubt it.

White gold is not all that different in color than sterling. My wedding band and e-ring are both sterling (bottom 2) and my promise ring is white gold. Both can be dipped/plated in rhodium. When sterling is dipped in rhodium it turns the metal dark. FH's band is actually a rhodium plated sterling band (etsy). So PP has a point about getting them soldered. As for rose gold, I personally think it looks beautiful next ro sterling.

I have a rose gold e-ring, and am considering a very similar wedding band to the one Maggy posted - but I'm considering it because it's called a "russian wedding ring" - and FH is Russian. I think it's a nice added statement towards us being together, plus I LOVE mixed metals lately!

    ETA - clarifying.

I wanted to do rose gold! But i got a plain white gold band because i didn't know how rose gold would look with a black diamond. We have the same date btw!

@JustBre I would love to see pictures

My e-ring is gold band with white gold setting. I was in between white gold or gold , but my FH wanted ours to match so I went with gold.

I think it depends on the rings and personal preference. A ex-friend of mine just got married and her e-ring was halo diamond gold and her wedding band was silver (i think) and had braiding details. To me it looked odd and the rings didnt really match. But she liked it so that all that really matters.

My e ring is platinum but my wedding band is yellow and white gold. E ring was FHs grandma's and mine is my grandma's band soldered on to a new white gold band. The jeweler was afraid it wouldn't stay together if repaired since it's so thin. Neither of us has living grandparent's so they mean a lot. This is them together.

White gold will go great with silver! But there is nothing wrong with buying the yellow gold band. Mixing metals is super in and classy. Hey, Rolex mixes yellow gold and stainless steel!

I have a white gold e thing and I ordered a rose gold band from etsy. I haven't gotten it yet but I took the chance and hoping they look nice together!

I'll be wearing mixed metals! FH had my e-ring made up in white gold, which goes with all my other jewelry and I love it. But I'll be using my grandma's ring as a wedding band. It's white gold on top but yellow gold for the shaft.

It's all about preference. Me personally I don't like it. Everyone's taste is different though.

My best friend has a white gold engagement ring with a white gold band that has pink stones and a rose gold band with diamonds. The combo looks awesome! I think you can do whatever you want with mixing metals. I personally love it!
