Mixing plastic and real dinnerware

Danielle, on March 29, 2015 at 12:43 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

So I know this may not be ideal, but pretty much everything will be real flatware/glassware except for 2 things. I'm thinking of getting plastic dessert forks for the cake and having 1 of the cups be plastic for water. (I will make sure to look for nicer and more durable) Just want to see what your thoughts were about mixing with stainless steel and plastic. Have you been to a wedding where it was done? It's not set in stone but money is looking tight and I want to cut costs wherever I can.

We used plastic forks for the cake. Nobody cared.

Nobody is going to really remember if your stuff was plastic or real. I don't remember what my cousin used at her wedding, do what you feel is comfortable for your budget.

We are planning to do the same thing with the cups. Also considering using small clear plastic plates for the appetizers. Smiley smile

I don't think it would be a problem!

I know they make plastic forks that look like stainless. They're actually pretty tricksy until you pick it up/get a good look at it. My gma got them for a fam party one time. I thought she was crazy for putting out "real" forks at first.

I am doing small clear plastic cakes for cocktail hour. It is just easier, so I get it.

FH and I are having a very casual wedding. I am a nature nerd and didn't want a lot of waste. All our utensils, plates, cups, etc are biodegradable. It costs us less to buy these then to rent. I was actually surprised at the quality of the items.

I am using sturdy w/designs plastic dinnerware. You can plasticware that looks like real glass. Real dinnerware was way too expensive for our budget. So to answer your question, no I do not see any problem with it.

My venue used plastic forks for the cake, and plastic cups for the soda, water, and other nonalcoholic drinks served from the bar. Everything else was either actual silverware or bar glasses.
