mob - hair and make up trial

Kc&do, on June 25, 2018 at 4:46 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10

We went to an expo this weekend (my FH, MOB and myself) and after were recapping on what else we need to put deposits on and what else is needed. I mention a hair and make up trial for me and my mom. Mom says "make up for me?" and she looked shocked/concerned.

My mom has never worn make up and is balding. Does anyone know of hats that would look classy for my mother? Maybe I can talk her into lipstick, I don't know how to explain it to her.

Doing a trial with a HMUA will probably help her feel more comfortable about it--my mom didn't think she wanted hers done until she met our amazing HMUA during my trial and then got so excited about the process. a professional can help explain things in non-judgmental ways, too. you could even just start with, it's a long day and you want her to feel comfortable and pretty throughout, it's a nice opportunity for pampering yourself, it'll look so nice in pictures, everyone's getting it done and you want her to be part of it...good luck!

ETA should also add, if she really doesn't want to get it done, i wouldn't force her. all you can do is offer it as a gift as part of the day, but if it's really not her thing, you have to decide if it's a battle you really want to fight.

Does your mom want to wear a hat and/or makeup? If not, I would not push this. She should do and wear what she feels comfortable in without any pressure. Also, usually only the bride is the one who does a trial with the HMUA.

My Mom rarely wears make-up and when she does, she applies her own. She also does her own hair. So on my wedding day she'll be doing both on her own, which makes her most comfortable.

My mom has never worn make up I just mentioned it to her because I thought she would like it. But she visually looked scared when I mentioned it and almost jumped with "why me". I told her it didn't matter. She is the one that mentioned the hat, she is loosing a lot of her hair and feels it'll look better in pictures. I could care less about the hat, but if she wants one I'd like to find her one that she likes. I just don't know where to even look. She is wearing a dark blue pant outfit.

Hah, my mom and I got trials together since she was on the fence. We had a super fun day, but she hated being in the make up— it just sealed the deal that she wasn’t going to do it day of.

No no harm no foul— a trial is perfect for this. You guys can have a nice girls day, and she can figure out if she wants that. My mom said she had fun playing dress up that day....but it felt too much like playing dress up for the real, important day. Comfort and fun are key!

re hats, I’m sure she’s beautiful without one or the photographer can work wonders in angles or edits if they know it’s a sensitivity. But hats can also be lovely (royal wedding!). Most department stores should have a selection, even somewhere like Marshall’s. She can go try on and see if it’s really something she’s interested in

    Hi KC!

Does your mom want to wear a hat and/or makeup? You could ask her what she's open to and go from there, explaining that a hair stylist/makeup stylist might have some good, natural looking ideas for her, if she doesn't usually wear any makeup. I have seen MOBs wear pretty hats before, too. However, what she is most comfortable in is most important, regardless, so starting a conversation about it first is probably best.

    I hope this helps!

There are lots of hats and fascinators on Etsy. I would start there

What do you mean, you don't know how to explain it to her? Maybe you can talk her into lipstick? If your mother doesn't want to wear makeup or a hat, then she shouldn't. She's a grown woman. I can't imagine one of my closest loved ones trying to "talk me into" makeup or an accessory that I didn't want to wear, especially since I'm sure that your mother is already very aware and perhaps self conscious of the fact that her hair is thinning. Don't bring this up to her unless she mentions it first, or you're risking hurting her feelings pretty badly.

Ok, let me be clear I never would force my mother to wear makeup or a hat! I don't care, I just thought she would like to get her makeup done and I'd invite her to my trial and she could talk to the HMUA if she had questions and wanted to. I would never make her wear a hat she is the one who mentioned it and pulled out the owe full ugly thing she wore over 15 yrs ago at my brothers wedding (laughing while pulling it out). I figured we could find something she likes and would be comfortable in but didn't know wear to look. She is the one that mentioned it not me. She is wearing a pants outfit and I got her bling sneakers (we got them, while shopping for my shoes) because my ceremony is on the grass and she has fear of falling when walking on the grass in shoes. I'll get her a small necklace as well.

I feel like department stores (Macy's, Dillards, Belk, JCPenney, etc) always have a nice selection of hats designed for women to wear to church.
